US Billboard chart positions via Billboard.com
DOYS 5 DBTT 12 Heathen Chemistry 23 SOTSOG 24 Be Here Now 2 Morning Glory 4 Definitely Maybe 58
Who says OASIS never achieved success in America.
I mean Be Here Now No. 2............bloody hell is that not success
Looks like the promotion this time has delivered well and hopefully sales will continue

hey man. dont forget this album sold 55 thousand. in a country of 300,000,000
thats right.
so it was NOT successful, sales are slow, and oasis fans bought it. but it didnt do that good, plus it sold less than DBTT anyway.

no i think that is a success, cause that means all sales are down. success should be relative to what's selling around it, and it's still #5.

If you count itunes downloads it beat DBTT.
There was an additional 20k in legal downloading so it sold about 75k.
Additionally TSOTL video is still playing on FUSE and radio so I think it will out sell DBTT. IOT will also be a more radio friendly hit than Idle which was never released here.
I bet Oasis will sell 200-250k here overall. It will be interesting to see how far it falls in the U.S. this week. Probably in the 30's or lower.

THAT IS NOT GOOD.

The key to good album sales in countries where Oasis isnt that big is singles success. TSOTL is still doing well on the charts it seems, despite it only going to no. 3 in the UK.
Over the past 3 weeks, its gone from 98-90-51 on the Canadian Hot 100. Might go even further this week.
Plus it peaked at 10 on the Japanese Hot 100 and is still in the top 20.
Its been steadily climbing up the Billboard Hot Modern Tracks for the past 8 weeks and is currently at 13, which is the best an Oasis song has charted there since Dont Go Away. Could possibly go a bit higher.
Its also only the 3rd Oasis song to crack the Billboard 100 (w/ Wonderwall and DLBIA) Currently at 93, will probably go a bit higher this week.
Additionally, its one of 4 Oasis songs to reach the top 5 in Sweden. In both France and Sweden, its been their highest charting single since DKWIM.
Plus its done pretty damn well elsewhere in Europe.
I think the next singles are only going to do better. I'll bet that Im Outta Time cracks the Billboard Top 100, and it could potentially be a top 40 hit, in addition to doing well in other countries. Plus, Falling Down has already charted at no. 45 on the Canadian top 100, which means itll probably do pretty well elsewhere when its officially released.

hmm... those are indeed some encouraging numbers but the nest single needs to be released SOON. I think "the shock" did what i was supposed to do , which was putting them back on the map. now the next single(supposedly IOT) needs to follow . Falling Down however, i think, would kill the momentum. It's just not what is considered to be "mainstream friendly" type of sound, the song is a bit slow and i don't think it would be a success. just my opinion though.

If I were the one to Advise Oasis on this whole Singles thing. This is what I would say
1. TSOTL SHOULD have been released late August, Early September, rather than Sept 29! THAT is why it didnt chart at #1 in the UK, and it would have done better elsewhere around the world, because it started playing on radio on Aug 15th
2. Next single, Im Outta Time, should be released early November. This is going to be the biggest hit off this album. It does have a chance to do very well in the American market. Has a chance to crack the top 40 in the States. Should chart to #1 in the UK
3. After Im Outta Time, lets hit the public with another rocker at the beginning of the New Year with Bag It Up. Release it say mid January. This song is great. Should hit very high in the UK. Not sure how it will be recieved in the States. But it should be able to hold its own
4. Go back to a slower tune. Falling Down.
5. End on a rocker. Release The Turning as the last single off this album. I have no question that this song would hit #1 in the UK

i agree with your choices of Bag it Up and The Turning. This album's sound is very much similar to what gets a lot of airtime on the radio here(USA). at least on Alternative rock stations. Falling Down however, that would only slow things down. Also Oasis has never put out more than 4 singles off 1 album, otherwise Slide Away would have.

Some Might Say wasn't released as a single in the U.S. i don't think.... was there even a video released for it in support? don't think so. Only singles with a video can be taken into consideration imo , otherwise it doesn't really make a difference if they call it a "single" because no one else really recognizes or acknowledges it as such, you get what im saying? for example, "the shock" wasn't released as a single here either BUT the video was played on vh1 and Mtv2/Mtv hits, etc so... plus the air play it got, therefore everyone know it's a single.

Although I like the video for TSOTL not being able to see the band and Identify with them (for non die hard fans) can actually be a turn off.
Seeing the band playing their instruments in a video helps people connect.
Just my opinion.... who knows.

Well, they haven't really got a radio-friendly single ready and waiting to boost sales.
I'm Outta Time will get a few spins I guess but people may baulk at its Lennonisms.

it still is 5 then. some might say had a video with it. not a very good one. in any case, all the singles they released from MG had videos attached to it.
