"(Falling Down) is a brilliant closing track. But unfortunately, Dig Out Your Soul is not over yet by a long way."
"It's almost as though, feeling pretty pleased with himself, Noel has taken the afternoon off and let the rest of the band finish the record. And so we have to deal with: “To Be Where There's Life” - a sub-Heavy Stereo stewed psychedelic blues jam from Gem that gives the album its title; “Ain't Got Nothing” – a self-explanatory squib from Liam; the Rutles raga of Andy Bell's “The Nature of Reality” (it's “pure subjective fantasy,” in case you were wondering, epistemology fans) and then the closing track, another Liam contribution, “Soldier On”."

and still the album only gets a 3/5? if 7/11 songs are good then thats a bit better than a 3/5. I still think people who have rated this album a 3/5 need to give at least a 3.5/5 but i'm biased but the last 4 tracks are all interesting. They are not as good as Noel tunes but TBWTL has a classic groove and possibly Gem's best. AGN is not that interesting but its better than TMOS. TNOR has a true great stomp. The lyrics are pretty good though they are cliche in some spots. SO is not a true epic classic closer but it ends the album with a solid dreamy feel to it. The second half though the actual tunes are less strong it contains some of the most interesting and different Oasis songs that have ever been recorded aand that should at least get some respect from the critics that have been waiting for them to change their sound for all these years. Still the last 4 tunes are not that bad they are pretty good just not as strong as the chiefs tunes.

Hate responding to a Robodump thread, but, the second half of the album is at least interesting to me. I look forward to TBWTL and TNOR.

You know I was just thinking that very same thing. By the end of Falling Down, I'm thinking how amazing this record is. I don't dislike any of the other tracks, I just don't respond to them the way I do with the first seven tracks. A better than average review, but I still think DOYS is far above being a 3 star album. For me, it's just short of being a five star classic.

It's a 4/5 album easily.
Makes you wonder though if the news that the band couldn't finish those two songs meant they used AGN and Andy's song instead.

in terms of comparing VLV to DOYS. DOYS does the whole "experimentation" thing a lot better. Doesn't sound forced like VLV. Yes again i'm biased but i think this album is superior to VLV and if a magazine gave VLV higher reviews and would dare to say they are slightly out of their mind.

it seems to me that reviews are divided into 3 categories:
1. those who don't like the album (usually american) who slag it off for ''lack of originality'' and such and usually see the only good tune as i'm outta time.
2. those who like the album, mainly the first half for the noel anthems but don't appreciate liam/andy/gem's contributions.
3. those who like the album, like the first half but love the second because of the different vibe on em from most oasis tracks.

being an American wanker that pays around $15 USD for 'Uncut' here in the USA, I am cautious to read any review by anyone that thinks that 'SOTSOG' was anything less than 'WTSMG'....
IMHO, "The Shock of The Lightning" is classic Oasis and is proof positive that Noel is still a badass.

Because if so then ya, you are a wanker! ;D
