Wow, check out all the backlash Jody Rosen has taken. It's worth the time to go and read some of the "reader" reviews after his/her review. All 4-5 stars. Has RS ever pulled a review in favor of a new one? Makes me feel a bit better about the whole thing. It's tough being a fan of the Gallaghers here in the states.

They always pull reviews when they fuck up. They systematically re-write music history in RS. Thehave a new be here review up for a few yrs. They usually wait a few years to redo the reviews so no one notices or caresbut the record is altered

I read somewhere about reviews of "classic" albums that they bashed at the time, and years later went back and basically apologized for it.
This should be one of those times, but for a magazine that LOVE the Jonas brothers, Paris Hilton, Jack Johnson, Metallica, Fallout Boy, and all sorts of other garbage rock - this doesn't surprise me...
...but it shows how out of touch Rolling Stone is.

They kind of re reviewed be here now and whats the story. They didn't physically do so, but Be Here Now was reviewed higher than What's the story, then years later for the 500 greatest albums of all time, What's The Story made the cut at like 363 or something. Things didn't add up.
UPDATE * Well, I spoke too soon, those slimeballs have infact re-reviewed both albums since the 500 list, because now both albums are 4/5 stars. I know Be Here Now used to be 4.5/5 and I thought Whats The Story was 3.5/5.

...but it shows how out of touch Rolling Stone is. I think you're right. By so desperately trying to be "in touch", Rolling Stone magazine only end up with a publication that is void of any depth or valuable analysis. When they get it wrong, they end up with reviews that bare little correspondence to the albums that are being discussed. I don't think many people who listen to DOYS will read RS' review and think, 'yeh, these guys are spot on.' They are out of touch with reality.
