Its only now that I appreciate the brilliance of this song, it grew on me with every listen, but once I read Noel said it was a modern day 'Take this hammer' and I looked into its history, it really is. That is the greatness in Oasis, they bring together their influences and cause you to investigate the wide range of music out there......when else would I be listening a 1940's youtube video of Leadbelly singing a prison song

I loved Soldier On from the moment I heard the 40 second clip. There's a great dreamy groove to it. And it's a great closer.

I don't need Noel to tell me anything.....I always liked the song...the point is though by widening my musical knowledge I now more appreciate the feel of the song and its influences. I honesly love the whole album and think its getting some strange criticism for such a strong and brilliantly produced album

yeah i dug it straight away. i figured people would come around to it. "Who's to say, that you were right, and I was wrong" Yeah this is a top tune, still think they could have closed the album with a stronger song

I just cant seem to dig this song, when i think of it i just think of a dull drone, its a shame really cos the melody of the verse is great

I've been listening to soldier on and it grows on me a bit more every time. It's mega.
Thanks for the info Liamscoat. I found it interesting because I too like to know where Noel's coming from especially with songs that I really like.
Are they Northumberland pipes at the end? Anyone?

This song has grown on me the most. I really love the psychadelic vocals. The version on Myspace is a lot better than the leaked one earlier. There is more to the song with the proper album version.

i love it too.
I brought the CD yesterday in Aus as for me listening to poor quality in Myspace or whatever isn't the same.
Anyway after reading the reviews I was waiting for the album to fall off after the first 5 songs as people have said the second half is poor, but no it just kept producing, for me anyway.
OK Nothing on me is a bit throw away but I love it all, Really,
Brilliant album maybe equal to MG -its no longer a hard decision placing their albums now. For me MG was over rated and had too much throw away filler on it. DOYS is a very complete album all songs from the very top draw.
It sounds like the INDY band they always were experimenting a bit, not trying to write number 1 singles all the time.
DM, MG or DOYS, MP then the rest several tiers below and they shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath.
