Hey everyone, just wanted to let u know that if u dont have the patience, u can download the album off any torrent site. I would only suggest u do that if you are planning on buying the album when it hits the stores, otherwise your not really devoted fans are ya?
Heres my honest opinion on the album, let me know what u think.. (a lot of my comparisons u may not be familiar with or agree with, but it is what i felt of it when i heard it several times over..thank you!)
-Dig Out Your Soul-
This is Noel admitting that it will take more than high album sales and the top of the pop charts to become a "great" band. Experimenting with instruments and sounds is the title of this album..
Since day 1 Oasis have claimed to be the best band in the world, and have supported their claims with singles and albums charting number 1 for almost 15 years now. But now they take things a lot more seriously.. This album's music is not the typical "catchy tunes" that u find everyone singing along. With Dig Out Your Soul, Oasis portray their musical capabilities as well as each of the band members' lyrical fluency. The album is certainly not "another definitely maybe." With only one or two "commercial songs," the rest being a variety of experimental sounds not likely of the English band. The album starts with a groovy tune "Bag it up" that sounds inspired by Pink Floyd's "Meddle" album. Track 2 "The Turning" starts with a bag it up's outro and then a powerful drum beat followed by a very 'hopeful' bass line and piano riff, that sort of melt into each other peacefully. The song builds up well enough and is one of the most interesting off the album. Track 3 is "Waiting for the Rapture." Written and sung by Noel Gallagher, the song sounds like a modern White Stripes song with 2 drums playing in-sync, and a very unusual vocal line. This is perhaps where the listener begins to notice the very different sound of Oasis. The Shock of the lightning is this album's Lyla. With a catchy verse and chorus the song is typical Oasis single to draw the usual fans into the album, but always frowned upon by the band members themselves. Track 5 is written by vocals Liam Gallagher, proving he is no longer 'Little James' of heathen chemistry. The song is obviously 'Lennon-inspired' but a beautiful ballad it is. The song is very laid back with a "roll it over" type of solo mid way through the song. (Get off your) high horse lady is a noel written almost Bob Marley influenced soothing tune. The song is very laid back and relaxing, and will come as a surprise to most of the fans. I personally LOVED it. To get things back on the fast track, Noel's 'Falling Down' fires up with a groovy drum beat and almost 'dream-like' vocal line sung by Noel. The song makes good use of synth effects in the verse and chorus making the song build up intensely throughout its playtime. 'To be where theres life' is a song by guitarist Gem Archer that has a "Who Feels Love" oriental taste to it, but with a groovy bass-line. Liam sings the song well enough and near the ends screams "DIG OUT YOUR SOUUUUL, COZ HERE WE GO" which makes you bang your head everytime u listen to it. 'Ain't Got Nothin' is a song by Liam Gallagher and sounds a lot like Dont beleive the truth's "Meaning of Soul" with the rock and roll-ish sound. Not a favourite.. Next is the much respected "The nature of reality," written by bassist Andy Bell. The song has a very 'different' guitar intro that sort of slows down into an explosive riff that is repeated constantly after each build up. The song then evolves into a more bluesy sound with a "clap clap" and the solo near the end. A very successful experiment I would say. My favourite off the album. The album ends with Liam's 'Soldier On.' The song has a dark feeling to it with its bass line guitar and piano giving a haunting feel. The song near the end makes use of a very death-like organ sound and marks as a successful album outro, with liam's repetitive "Soldier On." Hats off to liam!
Finally, Dig Out Your Soul is a highly experimental piece of art that shows that Oasis have yet a lot more to contribute to Rock and Roll history, and that they will not allow themselves to remain in the tight genre of "Brit-Pop" by exploring their musical boundaries, and oh they sound so good doing so..
