are these alternate versions on the bonus disc demos? sounds like they are to me, since noel sings on the demos mostly, think the turning sounds ace.

yea they definitely all seem like demos/rough versions instead of "alternates" probably just what oasis is going to call them from now on so they can release acoustic versions as "demos".

the alternate version of shock of the lightning is unbelievable. love how the guy messes with the intro and makes it even rawer and more powerful

I really don't like the remix of TSOTL. TBWTL sounds cool, although the first 10 seconds remind me of "You know I'm no good " ;D

The start of the #4 version of The Turning reminded me of a mix between She's Electric and Lyla!

Listening to the alternate version of Waiting For The Rapture I understand what Noel meant in that interview when he said he took the love-ish song to Gem's and it ended up morphing into something resembling The Doors' Five to One.

Good call. I'd forgotten he said it started out as an a-minor reflective love song. It's absolutely gorgeous, stunning in its ballad form. Spine-tingling vocals. In this ballad form with the mellotron parts, I don't think it's too far removed from something like Let There Be Love. It's wonderful to have both versions to choose and compare.
Edit: For the hell of it I just looked up the quote I read from Mojo mag
Noel: "Another [song] started off sounding like a strummy, A-minor, very plaintive love song, but when we were doing it at Gem's I was like 'fuck it', and it ended up like The Doors' Peace Frog, with this heavy two-note riff."

Lord Don't Slow Me Down - No comment, this isn't new. The Turning (JagZ Cooner Remix) - Not bad, I like the choir being more front and center. But not as good as the album version. The Boy With The Blues - Awesome. Got goosebumps. The ending is very catchy. Falling Down (Chemical Brothers Remix) - Obviously we've heard this before. I love the piano, wish it was in the album version. Album version is still superior though. The Shock Of The Lightning (Jagz Kooner Remix) - Its alright. Like the Be Here Now version of the song. Not as good as the album version. I Believe In All - Decent song. Maybe missing a chorus. The "chorus" felt more like a bridge. To Be Where Theres Life (Richard Fearless Production) - Another Be Here Now version. I like it, just not as much as the album version. The Turning Alt #4 - The constant high pitched beeps are annoying. I don't like it as much as the album version. Would love to hear a Noel version with just him on acoustic guitar. Waiting For The Rapture Alt #2 - Beautiful. Got goosebumps. Could have been a hit if it was on DBTT. I probably like it a little better than the album version, but the album version makes more sense for DOYS.

I didn't hear the whistling in the original Lord Don't Slow Me Down? Was it rerecorded? You mean the bit around 2:19? Yes it's on the original. The track was completely remixed. The original mix was very cluttered, the new version is more open and allows to hear more of the individual elements behind the song. I'm with the general consensus on this: WFTR is great, The Turning is weaker than the original.
