I was actually wondering what that is too. Can't say I'm obsessed with it, but it is pretty sweet.

The first time I heard the end of SO I immediately thought of the end of Karma Police on OK Computer, it sounds very similsr.
On Wikipedia it says "the sound at the end of KP was created by Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien by "feeding sound through a digital delay machine". I'd bet Noel used a similar device for SO.

People are entitled to their opinions, but I'd personally save my hate/scorn/apathy for shit like Jonas Brothers (thanks God I've never heard any of their drek) or Brittany Spears and the like; completely worthless shit.
The likes of Radiohead & Coldplay, not everything they do is amazing, they've had their less interesting alums and singles, but they've got the right idea, good songs played on instruments by musicians with something to say, not fucking miming to insipid, moronic love songs.
I'd rather have a music scene with Radiohead & coldplay than another two Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey-wannabes who've just won Pop Idol.

Yeah, it's digital delay alright. Recorded a demo in February that ends in almost exactly the same fashion. It's not too difficult to replicate - it's just a case of fucking about with the pedals in the right way.

Well said. I don't get it when people say "well you can listen to your shitty coldplay or radiohead" here, cos both of those bands have their moments and are certainly very far away from being any form of bad.

I fucking love that effect!! Anyone know what it is? Its such a great way to end an album I havn't heard the album yet, but if its the effect im thinking of from Karma Police, they would be using something like this guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Boss-RE20-Space-Echo-DelayReverb-Pedal?sku=152267Radiohed used the RE-201 space echo pedal. that would be the sound of the analogue delay winding up. That pedal was issued last year or so to replecate it, u can do some pretty cool things with them hey.

I love the ending....but what I noticed lastnight is when you play it really loud that heartbeat type noise really is effective and it seems like it continues in your head after it has finished

Radiohead are just a schizophrenic version of Coldplay. No.

Are we talking the very last sound before the song ends? If so, I too am obsessed.
But here's the thing. On speakers it doesn't sound like anything special too me. But if I listen to it on headphones, there is a world of difference. It actually sounds like some sort of thing is moving around my head. It starts off to the right, it moves to my left by going over my head, then it moves forward as if going ahead of me, but then it slows as if hesitating and deciding whether or not to come back in my direction. Ultimately it goes forward off into the distance.
My headphones (or earplugs) are HP (Hewlitt Packard). They came with an HP entertainment notebook. I've never heard anything that sounded so real as if it were in the room with me.
Have any of you experienced this ending the way I've described it? I'm curious to know if I'm alone, and you all are just impressed otherwise.
