This isn't an apology thread, or a Sardy hype-session for that matter. But his deft hand is all over this record. To be real honest, I firmly believe DOYS has (by far) the best production of ANY Oasis album to date.
1. Liam and Noel's vocals are superlative. Noel's peaks on GOYHHL and WFTR, Liam on TSOL, and IOT. Consistent, excellent, and beyond my expectations.
2. Intros and outros are borderline seamless. My fave being GOYHHL to FD. Tell me the sirens exit to the Turning just isn't top of the heap? Amazing.
3. Have we ever heard superior drumming on an Oasis lp? Seriously, Zak of course gets a lot of credit here, but the percussions placement in the mix is nearly perfect throughout. GOYHHL is again another example of this. How many Oasis tunes have ever been so MADE by the sticksmanship? Yeah, that's what I thought.
4. The overall "linear-ness" of the album. Sure we'd all admit to there being "two-halves" to this album, but the magic lies in how it kinda "unfolds" over 2-3 tunes. Think about where the album goes from TSOL to FD. Wow.
In the end, this record really stands out to me because it just sounds so freaking tight. And while this may be a negative to some, I love it. Look, the band aren't in their early 20's anymore and its about time they make an album that better represents where they've come over the last 15 years.
And it's hard to imagine anyone getting them much closer than this.

It's certainly far better than their last 2 albums.
Let down only by the iffy song selections in the second half.

Right, I pretty much maintain that Sardy makes those songs "work" though, through his efforts cobbling them together. I'm not trying to change anyones minds here, but I kinda came down on the second half hard at first, and now I appreciate it a helluva lot more....especially when I listen straight through.

The production on DOYS sounds fresh, clean and exciting. Last two albums sounded rough and boring.

i still really dont get how you think production is better.. the music is just the music for me nothing more nothing less i really really dont understand how you can "tell" if the production is good.

I agree with everything said there. DBTT was spotty. Liam's vocals were all over the place. He was super nasal on KTDA, sounded great on LTBL, sounded kinda shit on LLAB. The songs were consistent on that record, but the actual sound was off in places.
Every song on DOYS sounds crystal clear and just immense. The bass is really rich and the percussion is just outstanding. You never notice the drums on Oasis records, but they're the best thing about this one.

I find it kinda funny how people can talk about the production on the album, and how crystal clear it sounds, when the leak we got had horrible sound quality.
I got a version that had the sound already turned back up, but I can definitely hear some fuzzy spots which i'm sure will be corrected on the final album.
Though, I could be wrong, and maybe the album leaked in another way in addition to the version that came first.

while i criticised this album for not having enough guitar solos (in another post), i still love it and think most of it showcases some of the bands best work. as for the production i agree with start at the end... it is very tight. the vocals and overall sound are very clear and consistent throughout (unlike DBTT). and the rhythm section is the best ever on an oasis record. a couple of the outros drag on a bit - GOYHHL and SO - but it is an amazing album overall. the more you listen to it the better it gets and each time you listen to it, you hear something different. no band can touch oasis.

Producing is more than just "fuzziness"....it's the mix, the "aura" if you will, the flow. The fact that there's orchestral arrangements on a few songs, yet they blend in so perfectly you almost can't even tell. The fact the drums and percussion are FINALLY the perfect level in the mix. The fact they got away with a song like TBWTL having zero guitars on it. You know how hard that is for a guitar band like Oasis? That's the stuff that falls on the producer...
