It's obvious. Not all reviews will be good. It depends from the writer and from the paper. There will be some stupid paper will say that this album is crap because there aren't big choruses. I expect this. This album might be crap because of a lack of choruses though, that's what Oasis do best and it's not something to criticise a band for doing. "That song is utter crap, it sounds far too good!" Eh? What defines a good song other than the fact it is catchy and sounds good?

I really think this album will be greeted with raving reviews, and I am never too optimistic about new Oasis album reviews. I knwo you can't tell much from 42 second clips but form what I can tell it sounds absolutely fucking massive. The Turning & Bag It Up will be two standouts I believe.

DBTT was praised in a few places. i really like allmusic.com's reviews of oasis. 5 stars for DM and MG. 3.5 for BHN. 3's for HC/SOTSG and 4.5 for DBTT. Exactly right, I always thought allmusic is the best spot around for reviews. I am with you (and them) in that my opinions of Oasis albums are inline with allmusic.com

It's all about the target of the paper, the pressions from the labels and the head of writer.

Sorry, not to be off point, but I think the AM's are easily one of the best bands of the last 5 years.

Matey, I checked out the link and you are right about the 3 and 3 1/2 stars for Coldplay...but I am fairly convinced that Rolling Stone alters their ratings with time. I used to have a subscription to RS and some of the ratings I remember reading are not the same according to the website...either that or i'm off my rocker completely. If this proves true though it indicates how arbitruary their ratings are in the first place. For RS to go back and alter reviews illustrates their dependence on fads and trends particular to its era.

i'd say the only half filler track on the AM debut is 'perhaps vampires is a bit strong..' the second half of the song is so fucking good though. the way they layered the music is orgasmic to smoke too. ha
i'd probably give the album 9.5/10 absolutely love it. each to their own though. each to their own.

They do. For the best example, see Led Zeppelin reviews. Zeppelin were ravaged by the Rolling Stone back in their day.

Sorry, I think both their albums (AM's) are 2 of the top 20-25 in their genre in the last 6-7 years, so, whatever. And yes, I definitely think ten years from now people will recognize them as benchmarks of their period...much like Def Maybe, Bollocks, and other comparable pieces that ruled over a musical timespace.

Am I the only one who thinks The Nature Of Reality has a strong similarity around the start and a bit in the chorus of I'm Only Sleeping by The Beatles? as well as a bit of a guitar riff from Helter Skelter

Kind of random, but the Cleveland Leader gave it DOYS a really good review. Not sure if I would agree with comparing Outta Time with Lennon's work, but it's nice to read a positive review. Reviewer seems to be a big Oasis fan.: www.clevelandleader.com/node/6840Music Revew: A Lot to Dig on New Oasis Album 'Dig Out Your Soul' Submitted by Eugmc on September 19, 2008 - 11:59pm. British supergroup Oasis returns to the fold next month with their seventh studio album, which will appear in record stores on October 7th. If one song sums up the solid effort it is the second track of the album, written by Noel Gallagher, entitled 'The Turning'. The mid-paced song's lyrics proclaim that they are "Mining a dream for the same old song". The Gallagher brothers and company have a far different approach this time out, which is their freshest sounding album since their heralded debut album - 'Definitely Maybe - which sent shock waves throughout the music world when it was released in 1994 but continues to play homage to their heroes in the past. The band clearly continue to wear their influences proudly on their sleeves borrowing from 'The Beatles', 'The Doors', and the solo work of John Lennon. The band throws nuggets of hits like 'Dear Prudence', 'Five to One', and 'Gimme Some Truth' while making their own compositions expand on those fine works. Vocalist Liam Gallagher, the voice of an English generation of popular music, calls out in the opening track 'Bag it Up' that "Everything that I believe in tells me that I want more". Fans of the band get that and more on the album. 'The Turning' starts as a delicate piano piece before a guitar solo takes it a new level, while a 50 piece choir helps brings the piece to a close. Liam's older brother Noel gets his first chance to sing on the third track, 'Waiting for the Rapture', which starts with the familiar beat of 'Five to One' by the 'Doors'. Noel proclaims his love for his longtime girlfriend in the piece and displays a vocal style that he hasn't been heard from in his 14 years in the music business. The next track on the album is single 'The Shock of the Lightning'. This is the first return to the Oasis that we have came to know from their many years in the spotlight. The new single is their most successful in the United States, in terms of chart placement, since 1997's 'D'you Know What Mean' which was the lead single off their last platinum album effort stateside. The next track is the bands obligatory ode to late Beatle John Lennon, penned by Liam, and entitled 'Out of Time'. 'Out of Time' sounds eerily similar to Lennon, even featuring the late songwriter in an interview clip, and wouldn't sound out of place on Lennon's 'Imagine' or 'Double Fantasy' albums. When Yoko Ono, a known admirer of the Gallagher brothers, hears the track it will likely bring a tear to her eye and she will likely be proud of Liam's most solid songwriting effort to date. Noel again takes the reins on '(Get of Your) High Horse Lady)' which sounds like a bluesy take on Paul McCartney's 'The Beatles (White Album)' track 'Rocky Racoon'. Think 'Rocky Racoon' meets something you may hear off 'The Rolling Stones' epic 'Exile on Main Street' for this number. It again sounds nothing like Oasis has ever attempted and truly works to break up the first half of the album. Noel starts off the second half of the album by singing 'Falling Down' which, much like Liam sung 'Shock of the Lightning', goes back the 90's Oasis bag of tricks, by employing the "drone-rock" that the songwriter experimented with the band 'Chemical Brothers' in the mid-nineties. '(Get of Your) High Horse Lady)' and 'Falling Down' truly show Noel's diversity and are starkly different but somehow manage to "work" back to back on the albums release. Gem Archer, who has been with the band since 1999, has the honors of writing the next number on the album. Archer channels his inner-George Harrison by employing a sitar on 'To Be Where There's Life'. The track has a gritty Liam Gallagher vocal, a mean bass line, a sitar, and bravely forgoes the use of a guitar. Liam once again gets to provide another tune, and again opts to go for some solo Lennon styled music. Liam, who has stated that he felt Lennon's spirit enter him before a gig in Manchester in 1996, mines the aggressive Lennon number 'Gimme Some Truth' for the track entitled 'Ain't Got Nothing' which tells a story of a massive punch up in Germany which saw the bands frontman lose his two front teeth. The album closes with two more Lennon sounding pieces with bassist Andy Bell providing the band 'Nature of Reality' and Liam's 'Solider On' which works well as a closing track. Will Oasis silence naysayers with their latest release? If it has taken 14 years and you still haven't 'Dug Out Your Soul' for the band you will probably never "get" the Gallagher brothers. But if you have been waiting since 1995 for the band to follow up on their most commercially successfully album '(Whats the Story) Morning Glory', this is the album that you may want to pick up as it introduces new sounds while still maintaining the greatness that is Oasis.

Right.
I was just lucky enough to listen to the album (Dig Out Your Soul) in full – promo copy. I gotta say that I was a sceptic about the whole new Oasis groove direction nonsense......
But I have been proven wrong. They haven’t gone off in a totally new direction; theres certainly no ‘groove is in the heart’ moment or any shite, it’s far more subtle than that. The album has a seamless quality to it...with no real beginning or end...I won’t spoil it for you all, but you will know what I mean when you listen to it for the first time. My advice though....first time you listen to it...listen to the whole album in sequence the whole way through – it’s brilliant – truly brilliant. I think even hardcore Oasis haters will see greatness in at least some of the material on this record.
“(Get of your) high hoarse Lady” & “I’m Outta Time” are masterpieces, it’s that simple.
Dig out your Soul (in my opinion) is the 3rd best album they Oasis ever done...and yeah it’s a cliché to say, but start believing again...cos the decade is back on.
I would put the Oasis Albums in this order:
01. Definitely Maybe (I don’t think anyone would argue with this choice)
02. What’s the story morning glory (Or this choice either)
03. Dig out your soul (It’s that good)
04. Be Here Now (So underrated as an album, yeah every song is 25 minutes longs, yeah its self indulgent, yeah some of it is obvious and some of it tedious – but for me its coked up brilliance with a shed load of money thrown at it. Noel reckons he can’t even remember making the album.......wicked)
05. Don’t Believe the Truth (return to form, with some great tracks on it – the preload to Dig Out Your Soul)
06. Be Here now (A band struggling to find any direction, but has some good tunes on it)
07. Heathen Chemistry (A band completely at a loss, its only redeeming song being “Song Bird” which is one of Oasis’s finest moments. I didn’t and still don’t like this album at all, but I guess it marks the beginning of Liam stepping up to the plate – in terms of song writing).
Erm...anyway...back to the point.
Dig Out Your Soul.......spend the money and get the limited addition vinyl even if you don’t own a record player - give it to the grand kids one day. Its f’kin brilliant!

i've listenedv to the full album since it leaked and i gotta say it's really good, better than DBTT imo. much stronger album. excellent sound, really good mastering. only weak tracks are 'goyhhl' and 'agn' but the rest is great.
love the turning, the nature of reality, i'm outta time 'even if it's lennon all over' , shock of lightning, bag it up.
i'm gonna get the £50 limited edition album pack anyway so it makes no difference if i listen to it now.
p.s. thoughs 45 second clips dont do the tracks justice, they sound very heavy but the album tracks in full are great. i dl'd the clips and thought unless you're an oasis fan you'll hate the album. i even thought from the clips the album is dissapointing so when i got it i was'nt expecting much and was really surprised it's really good - 4/5 stars. much better than DBTT.
