Anyone know a good piece of software I could use to organize hundreds and eventually thousands of pictures? I would like to be able to use it like a database to add keywords to the pictures and pull them up appropriately, kinda like the clipart organizing software in MS Office.
Any help woudl be appreciated!

doh, sorry I'm an idiota, can it be used by multiple people added pics/tagging photos etc? I have been given the task of setting up a picture database for use by about 100 people in my school and need to explore the options! Money is pretty much no object on this one so if anyone uses something like this at work lemme know!

i've never really used flicker before, does it give you the aility to tag photos with search terms? I'm not sure they like the idea of an online database as well, they want to host it themselves for various reasons.
Anyway I been cheking picasa, it works a charm actually I quite like it, but the tags you put on a photo are only stored within your local picasa environment, they aren't transferable to other people on the network (as near as I can tell anyway)
thanks for recommending picasa though, I'm using it at home and talking the wife into using it as well she has about a million photos on her computer

you're welcome yes. maybe you should check flickr for ideas and merge the best of it with the best of picasa and there you have your application for instance flickr.com/groups/oasis-in-nyc/ you have a search option in the top (searches through tags)

I have thousands of photos tagged on flickr . ppl find them with google search from all over. it's my top choice of online photo distribution and storage www.flickr.com/photos/worldwideviral

Essentially I need something that works just like flikr but points to a server on the local network rather than the web. At this point I'm thinking of outsourcing it since I'm tired of dealing with it!
