Most likely because Noel meant Some Might Say and Aquiesce as an interim single (like Whatever). But once he realized how kick ass the song was, decided to include it for Americans and other countries where the single wasn't released.

I actually think SMS i a little bit overrated.

Morning Glory is the best song from the album.

yeah, like columbian said, it was recorded at a different time and more so put out as a stopgap single than a lead single. at that time in oasis' career, they tried to put out singles every few months regardless of when their albums were gonna come out. that was both something noel admired about the jam in their heyday and an insecurity of his that the public might forget about them if they went away for too long. obviously, nowadays, no one's forgetting about them no matter how long they go away for so they just go the lead single route.
