Exactly. Owen Hargreaves and Wayne Rooney are two notable examples.

Ya but this was for Santos, and the standard wouldn't have been as high as in Europe where his goal tally would've been less. For me though Maradona was the greatest(soon to be over taken if everything goes to plan by LM) oh no. now this is just wrong. you're quite contradicting yourself when you say Pele only scored some goals coz he used to play only in Brazil? What? Are you insane? There are 2 points I'd like to clear: 1. He didn't score SOME goals during his career. Each match Santos would score 7 goals and he would score 5 of it EVERY match. In that time, football wasn't only about money so we could keep all the stars in our championship. And I'd like to remind you we're 5 times WC champions. 2. You despise our football so much to that you don't appreciate a club from Brazil? I'd like to remind you he played for Santos against Milan and Benfica in the Clubs World Cup and he destroyed all your pussy little CL champions. Plus, he won 3 fucking WC. 3. That's much more than the whole UK could do during the history. And he couldn't do much more coz in 66 he was beaten until he had to leave against Portugal and in 74 we had some racial problems with the dictatorial government. Comparing Maradona to Pele is not just wrong but ignorant. If I'd compare with a Brazilian player, that would be Rivaldo or Ronaldinho.

Messi will win at least one of the next three World Cups (I say three as even when he's in his thirties he'll still have his vision and decision-making to rely on) haha. do you really think Argentina will make it? they got their 2nd thanks to Maradona. And please, don't say Messi is the next Maradona. and on his 30s Messi will be playing back in his country. What makes him great is his speed, and he won't be as quick so many years. he injuries too often (2-3 months per season). Ronaldo is gifted but any half-decent defender (clichy, cole, zambrotta even) he comes up against he is found wanting. Zambrotta? ;D ;D

dont be blinkered-ronaldo doesnt give a jiz about your team so why defend him to the point of making silly comments? If I was blinkered, I'd be like each and every clueless tabloid sheep of a football fan - I'd have written him off already. I defend him because a) he's still a United player, b) I'm not dumb enough to believe that tabloid conjecture constitutes undeniable truth, and c) he's an exceptionally gifted footballer - one of the best I've ever seen play at Old Trafford. I defend him for the same reason that I defend Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs - because, as a footballer, he's earnt my respect. looks like the greasy one will stay now..........shame you really couldve improved your squad We're the reigning European and English champions, pal, and all we're missing is a centre-forward. Our squad really doesn't require much immediate 'improvement' - and certainly not improvement facilitated by the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo. btw im old enough to have seen best live-he could piss all over the fallingdownboy;) That argument can never be settled, and in any case, it's completely irrelevant. We're discussing the merits of Cristiano Ronaldo as a modern-day footballer. You're just one more in a long line of aging know-nowts who consider themselves an authority on football just because they've 'seen George Best'. For your benefit - three more great all-purpose football cliches: "If only Ryan Giggs had been English." "The trouble with footballers is that they earn too much money." "Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh."

these players are mercenaries. It's like Figo: I enjoyed his seasons in Real Madrid, but I know that he played there cos he wanted to get more salary from Barça so he signed a pre-contract with the upcoming president of Real, but he didn't believe he'd end being the president ;D these players spend 3 or 4 in a team, move to a big one, 4 or 5 more years, move, sign a great contract and when they're on their 30s go back to their country.

It's full of fickle morons and gloryhunting daytrippers. And while I respect the efforts of any man who sees United week-in-week-out, when it comes to discussing the team a lot of them are found wanting. Examples: regulars still perplexed by the selection of Michael Carrick (despite his undeniably brilliant contribution from central midfield). Regulars who think Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes should have retired two seasons ago. Regulars who think Fergie's past it. They're just ticket stubs. They don't validate a person's opinion.

You do have some odd views............me id say someone who regularly watches their team live thereby getting much better perspective of off the ball runs, a players overall contribution etc ARE more qualified to speak about his worth
but whatever...............we should all get a pretty good idea of bigheads worth to the team based on their performances without him at the start of the season and then with him when hes recovered
