They have begun!! How about some chat about it? Samuel Sánchez, a spanish cyclist, has won the first gold medal for Spain. This triumph endorses the spanish hegemony on cyclism this year, after the victories of Contador in the Giro d'Italia and Sastre in Le Tour de France but it looks like this week all the eyes will be looking at Phelps and his try to beat Spitz gold medals record. It's strange how easy is to win 4 or 5 medals in some sports like swimming and how hard it's to get one in other like basketball, I mean a good swimmer or athlete can participate in many similar competitions and other sports have only one chance to get the medals

the opening ceremony was quite amazing. extremely long as usual, but the first 1/2 hour was great. then I got tired and watched pieces.
as for the medals... we don't have much hope. amateur sports don't have support in argentina, it's extremely hard for the kids to even train like they're supposed to.
but I guess we have a chance with the team sports: football, basketball, female hockey. I really hope the hockey girls win gold, it's the only thing they never won.

how agressive! I don't know, we have good players even though the team it's not in its best moment. but with Ginobili, Scola, Nocioni, Oberto.... I still have hope

Don't ever underestimate Phelps' ambition/achievement it is far from easy. He is the most naturally gifted swimmer ever because he covers all strokes in the individual medley events. He will also need to heavily rely on his relay team mates not to spoil his chances of gaining 8 gold medals. Re England's chances, we will best at the indoor cycling/sailing & maybe rowing. Oh and we have a 14yr old representing us at diving called Tom Daley, he looks so out of place amongst all the other divers but he is a star in the making ;D

I just meant that a good swimmer can win 4 or 5 medals cos he's in many races, but a good basket player will only get one if he and his team make a great job. imo some medals have more importance than other, that's all. and about Phelps, I know his dream is really difficult, I don't doubt that he's a great one in history. sorry eva, the argies have lost their first match. be careful or you'll lose on quarters against Spain or USA

I'd rather watch professional sports. I'll watch baseball over the olympics any day, any time.
