First off I will be the first one to admit this is incredibly speculative. That being said...
Having read the NME article I am having some doubts about Liam's voice and particularly Liam's confidence in his voice. Towards the latter part of the article it said that Liam stated, "I don't sing on Wednesdays". Not that he isn't, but that is an absolutely ridiculous comment. The first thing I think is that he doesn't want to sing in front of NME in an intimate rehearsal area as he fears they're going to slag off his voice being able to hear it live and incredibly clear without any audience singing back at him. Or perhaps Liam just doesn't sing on Wednesdays.

He probably didnt wanna set himself up for criticism from the NME. Doesn't mean they're right. Liam's voice is still amazing, even if he plays up on it a bit sometimes. His problem is probably stamina rather than talent...

I think your point about not wanting to sing in an intimate setting is probably close to the correct answer...

Who was it that said they didn't mind singing in front of 100,000 people but not to just a handful cos' it's too awkward. Maybe that was the problem...

Has it occurred to anyone that may have been a joke?? He probably doesn't need to rehearse as much as the guys who play instruments and have parts to learn

Hmm, Maybe they will put a bit of echo on his voice to make it sound a little better when they play live this tour...

His problem is probably stamina rather than talent... Spot on I'd say.

If this is about playing a small show, remember back to MTV Unplugged... he sounded amazing back then (of course he still does now, just not AS amazing), but he didn't sing. He's been drunk and sang fine before, I think he just doesn't like doing small shows.

He's been lazy like that since forever... and now I believe he also cares about saving his voice... i mean i doubt he does any exercise to the voice, so he probably considers a waste to use it in rehearsals...

I've heard rumors he's gotten help with his voice... maybe he wants it to be a surprise

Pretty sure Liam hates the NME as well. Remember the bar scene in LDSMD?

We will all be happily surprised when Liams voice is sounding as good as ever on this tour I think it's to do with if it's not that good NME will slag it off (the bastards)
