At this point can anyone imagine it NOT appearing as a FREE d-load on the official site or elsewhere for at least the first week?
Coldplay, Kings of Leon, Keane, Radiohead...all are at least putting their first single/song out there free-of-charge.
Good publicity, max ear-play, and just plain-good PR.
It's been 3+ years since DBTT and I think it would really play-out well for them. We all know it'll be all over the net within 2 minutes of its "official" release anyway (likely even before, honestly).
Some may think it'll appear "cookie-cutter" but I think it's the right thing to do, for many reasons.
opinions?

hmmmm you never know, they could but i doubt it although the promotion for this album has already been different to past albums so maybe
i would also imagine that some other marketing move will happen before radio airplay, probably digoutyoursoul.com going live cos i cant believe they will leave that as it is

I said this months ago and got shot down. Just cos noel said he wouldn't do an in rainbows doesnt mean he wouldn't d a coldplay. The amount of being doing this is crazy, it would make sense.

They've already released the beginning and the end of the song, plus the remix version of another track (not as a d/l though). I think we've already got what we're going to get for free.

Nah no chance. The Falling Down remix was the free tune they gave away. TSOTL is the first official single from the album. They'll be looking for that get into the charts and the video to be played on T.V not to give it away for nothing.
That Kings Of Leon tune ''Crawl'' isn't the first single from there album its just a tune on the album they gave away. Also Coldplay didn't give Violet Hill away they gave another tune. Not there first official single.

cause oasis really wants to follow keane, coldplay and radiohead. I don't really think its a matter of "following" anybody. I think it would be in the best interest of the band and therefore noel and liam would be open to it. As noted above, its not like they're giving away the entire album, and the offset of $4 single sales could lead to signifiicant upswing in 13-$14 albums. I'm betting it happens.

But Violet Hill absolutely WAS Coldplays first single and it absolutely WAS avail. for FREE a week ahead of its official release on their website. The KOL song is not, you're right. I guess the fact that they've (Oasis) already announced "the shock" being the first single in 6 weeks negates the chance we'll hear anything else (as far as other album tracks). I kow they'd like another #1 single in the uk, but you'd think a small boon in the us with 250+ million people would be a nice little perk too. I know, I know, who cares about the u.s.?

I didn't know that about the Coldplay tune. There fair points and I agree that giveing away another tune for free could be good but TSOTL it ain't gonna be free.

Noel had said months ago, that oasis would never do that, he said, they'll never put out any track or album for free.
In his words "we didn't pay for the most expensive producer in the US and the most expensive designer in the UK to gave away the album or the songs for free" NME issue of may i believe...

In his words "we didn't pay for the most expensive producer in the US and the most expensive designer in the UK to gave away the album or the songs for free" NME issue of may i believe... agreed, but perhaps his attitude would change if someone convinced him that it would lead to more lp sales and thus, more $$$. Noel's hardly an idiot, and I'm convinced he could be swayed by a decent argument. he also said he'd NEVER include the word "baby" in his lyrics, so go figure.

What if STC and RM were given away? They're not on the album anyways and would help with promotions...
