does it open after you do a restart?
Also what is the message it says when it won't play DVD's? Does it say you need a codec?

ok i restarted it but no luck so i just restored & it's still the same? the thing is it's been ok since i've had this comp,it was few days ago when it wouldn't open, all i remember is i have ABG i selected areas to scan so i selected a,d & e drive to scan i think it was after that when it wouldn't open, scanning shouldn't do that right?
i'll have to look into the dvd thing when i get home from work

stick a paperclip into the whole in the front of your cd drive, it should then pop out - and you can see if theres something inside.

the E: drive sounds like a hardware problem
the dvd thing might be a codec issue like meanstreak said
if they are both in the same IDE channel it could be the cable.

go to the device manager and check if it's there listed as cd-rom/cdrw or something like that and if it has a yellow symbol next to it
did you check if the setup sees it?

if its the first time you've used a DVD in your other drive, you may need to select a region in device manager, it should match the DVD that you are trying to play, but you can only change this 5 times in your DVD Drives lifetime. Try using another program such as VLC to play DVDs
