Hey guys. It seems like a lot of people here for some reason don´t like this album. i really don´t understand this, cause my opinion is that it´s the best one post Be Here Now.
Why?
Stop Crying Your Heart Out is the closest in songwriting Noel ever gotten the so called "glory days."
Liam´s songwriting is much better here imo. Songbird and BOADC is really good songs.
I think Hung In A Bad Place is Gems best song in Oasis.
I really love Hindu Times, the best rocker this century from Oasis.
Plus i really like She Is Love, Little By Little would have been a classic with Liam on vocals, still great, PAIDM is a good song, Better Man is OK, Force Of Nature is really rockin.
The B sides are great.
The tour was awesome!!!
Am I wrong?

Personally, I think Heathen Chemistry is great too.

I think the Heathen Chemistry era, both the album tracks and B-sides, has a very distinct feel to it unlike other Oasis albums/eras. I'm not sure if I can put my finger on exactly what that feel is, but it's got a definite sense maturity to it, from the songwriting to the production to the songs' performances, even to the album artwork.
To understand its context better in the big picture of Oasis, we can look at the preceding and following albums.
First, SOTSOG was a sort of identity crisis for the band. Bonehead and Guigsy were out, a more modern sound was implemented, and the visuals on the physical album were a 180-degree turn from each of their previous albums. Still, it was a distinct time in Oasis' history and perhaps was a necessity.
After HC was DBTT, which has an interesting mood to it. On one hand, it's very upbeat and optimistic in music and in spirit, harkening back to the band's earlier days -- a fresh start, if you will. On the other hand, it's a more mature sound than most of the band's albums. Perhaps it was this fusion of both maturity and optimism that made it a more successful release.
Now, back to HC. After analyzing SOTSOG and DBTT, we can see that HC is a sort of natural bridge between eras. From those albums, Oasis has gone from a desperate identity crisis to a self-assured band that is more confident in its makeup, hence more confident to get back to making the kind music it will ultimately be known for in the long run.
Thanks teacher, I hope I get an A on this paper...

It's filled with filler. FON, AQP, HIABP, BM, The Cage....
They tried, rather forced, another Whats The Story Morning Glory (with Little By Little the DLBIA for example), and it failed. If you can recreate past sounds and successes naturally then fine, but it can't be forced - if it is forced, it always fails. (Like how DYOS may be a return to the heavy and raw DM sound - they're not forcing their sound, so it should be of high quality)
My ranking - and it tends to be the general consensus - is as followers:
1.) DM: 5/5 2.) WTSMG: 5/5 3.) BHN: 4.5/5 4.) DBTT: 4.5/5 5.) HC: 3/5 6.) SOTSOG: 3/5 0r 2.5/5
I have trouble sepatating both BHN and DBTT, and HC and SOTSOG, but for opposite reasons
BHN is more fun to listen to, so it gets the edge over DBTT - but DBTT is better by conventional standards - flows, better lyrics, more focused, etc.
As for HC and SOTSOG - I think HC has more filler than SOTSOG, but SOTSOG has Oasis' worst released songs, and for that it gets a slightly lower ranking.
I hate when people say "Heathen Chemistry/Standing On get too many bad reviews." Look, we've had this debate countless of times before - they have good songs on them, both albums do, there's no doubting that. But they are the 2 worst Oasis albums by many fans standards - one album has to be the worst! And by Oasis standards, they are very dissapointing - the golden songs on both are fantastic and stand amongst some of the best stuff they've ever done, but as albums as a whole, neither stand up.
So no ones saying HC/SOTSOG are crap, just saying that they're disappointing and the worst 2 Oasis albums.

I like the beginning of the album a LOT, Hindu Times and Force of Nature are two of my all time faves.
but I get REALLY bored by the time Little By Little rolls around. :-(

I can never quite understand why DBTT gets so much praise. It's their worst effort to date, in my opinion. I could happily delete that album from my computer and not miss it one bit.

Yeah I like it. The Hindu Times is one of my favourite oasis songs and theres some great tunes like Songbird and Stop Crying Your Heart on it to.
I also I agree with the guy above me saying DBTT is there worst effort to date. That shit was dull and boring and the only good tune on it was TIOBI.

It was a necessary album to make, but it's not particularly good. Lyrically, aside from The Hindu Times, it's rather boring. Even SCYHO: "hold on, don't be scared". Liam's vocals really save the lyrics from being quite drab. She Is Love, Better Man, (Probably) All in the Mind, A Quick Peep are all filler. Little By Little is quite possibly the most boring Noel sung tune.
Now, mind you it does have some good tunes. The Hindu Times, SCYHO, and Songbird are all pretty good tunes despite some having dull lyrics. Hung In a Bad Place and Force of Nature... Eh, maybe. Force of Nature is another faux-western like Fade-In-Out, but Hung in a Bad Place is all right for Gem's first tune with Oasis.
It's a really, really okay album. 2.5 at the most and that's being generous with some songs.

I also love HC, and don't know why the fans on here criticise it so much,. In fact I listen to all the albums more than any other bands ...for me the sound of Liam's voice and Noel's music just can't be beaten!

I rarely ever listened to HC until last week and I fell in love with it again. It has the songs to compete with WTSMG and DM. I must be the only Oasis fan tired of DM probably cause it was before my time but it's a classic too. HC is fresh and flows well (minus two songs). If DOYS is like HC I will be happy thats all. Hopefully The Shock of the Lighting is as Rocking as The Hindu Times.

I can never quite understand why DBTT gets so much praise. It's their worst effort to date, in my opinion. I could happily delete that album from my computer and not miss it one bit. It doesn't get much praise. It was a critical flop in the press (besides a few positive UK reviews). Every Oasis album has been slightly worse than its predecessor and we are approaching scary levels of terribleness at this point. For whatever reason, I do think DOYS will be more listenable than DBTT. Might be hard with "Nothing On Me" on the album though. Ugh.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but stop presenting it as fact. 1.) DBTT wasn't a flop - it was almost universally hailed as a "return to form" 3/5 to 4.5/5 stars does not constitute as a flop. It also sold the most albums world wide since BHN. 2.) Their albums haven't gotten worse since BHN - point #1 counters that. 3.) "Scary levels of terribleness"? - So Song Bird, Where Did it All Go Wrong, Gas Panic, SCYHO, LBL, TIOBI, Lyla, and POTQ are all "terrible?" Get out of here and go listen to Coldplay you mug. If you don't like Oasis anymore, then get the fuck off an Oasis forum.

Heathen Chemistry? Boring. For me...I enjoy listening to Standing alot more. That album rocks, could have been their best work if Full On and Let`s All Make Believe were included. Hugely underrated record.

Generaly favorable reviews. Hmm, sounds god to me. Unless we're going off your completely arbitrary system of scoring which you alone seem to use. For the record, I don't believe anyone thanked you. A score of 64 is total and utter shit. You're welcome again. So you use metacritic not only to back up your views, but also form them too? Sad sad individual you are. 1.) Metacritic is filled with statistical outliers - normally on the end of "negative" reviews. Sorry, but it's not feasible to mark DBTT as 10%, 20%, or even 30%. It's just not realistic, and those reviews lose credibility with foolish scores like that alone. 2.) 64% is seen as favorable on Metacritic. 3.) Oasis have had a negative-media bias since BHN, although it's turning more favorably recently (DBTT CHANGED THAT) 4.) Metacritic gave HC a 55%, while DBTT scored 9 points better with 64%....So going by your beloved Metacritic, your theory that every Oasis album since BHN has gotten progressively worse is WRONG. OWNED5.) Metacritic also gave Fall Out Boy's Infinity on High album a 75%, 11 points better than DBTT, does that make that album better than Oasis'? I don't think so. I don't think Metacritic's average review score is an accurate assessment of how good an album is, and vice-versa. 6.) Metacritic is a SELECT group of reviews, it's too few to represent even a majoirty of an opinion. 7.) Playlouder wrote: "Yes, 'Don't Believe The Truth' is an improvement on the trilogy of folly that is 'Be Here Now', 'Heathen Chemistry' and 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants'. But so what? Can't polish a turd, you know." But gave it a 20%....Does that make sense to you? The review itself doesn't correspond to the score given. And anyway, that description is a long way of saying "back on form" and is an example of the aformentioned negative media bias You really are thick.

While DBTT favoured better in reviews than HC, it`s become traditional and almost trendy for critics to pan Oasis. It did receive some awful reviews, but more decent ones than it`s predecessors. Hence why it`s seen as a `return to form`.

Now - to clarify - I'm no robohump apologist (frankly, I'd much rather he fucked off and left us alone), but you really ought to know better than to discredit Metacritic when you yourself have used it to form the basis of your argument. Case in point: live4ever.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=Bands&action=display&thread=46750&page=1#555509You're entitled to your own opinion, but stop presenting it as fact. Pot, meet kettle. And stop dragging Coldplay's name through the fucking mud, will you? How many more times would you like to lose that argument?

The first six songs are good. The second five are not.
Well, "She Is Love" is good too.

But it just seems so...average. She Is Love is actually my favourite on that album. All the others I have liked at some point but just bore me now. Force Of Nature just lumbers, and Hindu Times should have been replaced by it's demo.
