All the signs are pointing to a mega album.
As long as it's in the same class as DM-WTS-BHN and less like HC-SOTSOG... then we're all going to go mental.
The sound will DEF be like BHN/DM - very heavy, guitars turned to 11....and we havent had that since BHN, so even that aspect alone im looking forward to.

Definitely I'm not asking for an album like DM or WTS MG, I just want qualtiy material. I think Oasis' bravado and candidness are partially responsible for the media targeting them.

I'll be really interested in what the US media will say if the album does well - "one hit wonders the Gallagher brothers are back with a rock'n album after a twelve year hiatus"
Fuck me.

They'll call it a fluke.

Nope. Not possible. DBTT was universally hailed as a return to form. So on the contrary, DOYS will show that DBTT wasnt a fluke. It's a great time to be an Oasis fan.

You think DBTT was praised right across the board? of course some reviewers didn't like it - and lets be honest, the majority of those negative reviews had their mind made up before they even heard it. The general consensus is that DBTT was a "return to form"

The general consensus is that DBTT was a "return to form" I like to think that since Standing, Oasis have slowly been recovering and building back up to their best. Each album has been better than the previous. Dig Out Your Soul could be the triumphant return to greatness that Oasis have been ascending to for 8 years.

... a duck dinner. The best I expect it to be is Be Here Now if it were done with better care, and that would be fantastic. And expectations aren't astronomically high like they were then, but DBTT still left enough anticipation that it won't be considered a fluke, as pointed out. I want what you want ... it is apparently neo psychedelic, though. I think that'll be easy to mock. I don't think it will be so good that people will be forced to admit it, nothing's that hot, but honest critics hopefully will admit it's very good. I predict the reaction will be polarized, as it's been for the cover.

Scrolling down I notice quite a few yellow and red reviews. So not across the board.

Drawer B "Mediocre melodies ride atop formulaic songwriting."
I love it when Rock critics use the term 'formuliac'. If its so easy why arn't you writing songs and making a mint out of it? I reckon about 90% of rock critics are failed musicians themselves, and dont understand why people like Oasis but didint jump around for their "Post Indie No Wave Math Rock/Jazz Band"

Spot on. Nonetheless, a few of them are nothing short of hilarious. From last week's Guardian, reviewing the new Primal Scream album:

I don't think it will be 'as good' (I hate that term...) as DM but I really have a good feeling about this, I think it'll be up there with songs like 'Columbia' and 'Bring it On Down.'

I think that the media in general is ready to re-embrace Oasis. Should lead to more objective reviews if nothing else.

Got to say im really looking forwrad to it. I want a mix of BHN and SOTSOG, that would be a nice hash up!
As for critical acclaim, Oasis have never gotten much of it post 97, i wouldnt epxect anymore than DBTT. Oasis still arent fashionable.
Personally the only persons opinion of the new album i gave one sh*t about is my own. I will judge it against Oasis albums of the past, as they are what i consider the greatest music ever made.
