I wasnt a fan when DBTT was released so I wouldnt know, btu I was wondering, where Oasis fans pretty worried when DBTT came out? What with turbulant recording and a lack lustre performance at Glastonbury '04, where you guys worried that DBTT was going to be shit?

sure. a lot of people were calling it a return to form. i was looking forward to zak's drumming more than anything else, but the leaks ruined it for me. their performances at glastonbury in '04 and their tv appearances before the album was released were mostly terrible (liam's voice was god-awful), which didn't help.

I've been a fan since I was 10 - got my first ever cd xmas 1997, and that was of course BHN. Been a fan ever since, but it wasn't until 2005 when I was 17 and joined this forum that I became a real hardcore fan.
With that being said, it's hard to remember 3.5 years ago, and even if I could, it would be hard for me because DBTT was my first time on a forum like this so couldnt really compare it to HC or SOTSOG releases.
However, from what I do remember, a lot of people were thinking that MOS and the other tunes played at Gasto 04 were shit, and that didn't seem to bode well for DBTT.
And lets not forget that DBTT followed two VERY average/dissapointing by oasis standards albums - HC and SOTSOG, so it would b hard to be optimistic.
Then in early spring, Lyla was the first one to leak, and i think the general consensus - including my opinion - that it was a very awkward song - the melody took awhile to get used to, but we all love it now!
Then once the others songs leaked, I believe we grew more and more at ease, and most on here likes DBTT.
Comparing DBTT to DOYS, I think most are more optimistic this time around - and righfully so: DBTT set the stage for DYOS, the band have shown they have matured and are passionate again. The trouble times of 2000 - 2004 and SOTSOG and HC and now well and truly behind them. DBTT wasn't just a good, solid album, but it was also very important in setting the scene for this new stage in Oasis' career and the forthcoming album.
Mad fer it.

For some reason I had faith that "Don't Believe the Truth" was going to be good even after the Glastonbury performance. I remember them playing "Meaning of Soul" and "A Bell Will Ring" before the album came out and I thought they were alright, but I didn't panic because I knew neither of the 2 were written by Noel. Unlike live4ever, when I first heard Lyla I was estactic. I remember thinking that "Lyla" was exactly what they needed in a opening single.
In comparison with "Dig Out Your Soul" I'd have to agree with live4ever. My level of anticipation is probably the same as it was with "Don't Believe the Truth," but it seems that more people are excited this time around. It will certaintly be great to enjoy some new tunes soon!
Cheers!

at this point, my anticipation levels are really low. all i want to hear is an amazing album, and as of right now, i have plenty of them to listen to.

all i want to hear is an amazing album, and as of right now, i have plenty of them to listen to. absolutely true! i haven't come across many good albums over the past years. always some good songs but rare good albums! oasis are somehow my last hope, that the trend toward one-song-hype-bands can be stopped. considering dbtt and all the leaks: i was shocked by the glasto-gig because of the drums - so i was very insecure, where this band was going. plus: i didn't like a meaning of soul. but then, i think lyla was a pretty good single. and dbtt became a solid album with 3 or 4 really great songs on it.
