ok im quite shit with computers as such, anyway for the past few months when i click log of the ''egg timer'' ( if that's what it's called) loads for about 2 mins before my comp shuts down,i aint gotta clue why it never used to.
anyway i've bene speaking to someone & she asked me to check my windows taskbar manager, she said she has 16 processes,i have 45.i dont wanna risk deleting any of them & i dont even know if having that many might be the reason for my comp turning of as slow as it does.
can anyone help at all pleaseeeeeeeeee??? i dont know what to do to be honest

the amount of processes is extremely relative to what you have installed and running at the time. it doesn't necessarily (spelling?) indicate that you have a problem.
I didn't quite understood that "egg timer" thing? is that a program you have installed? maybe it's set to shut your computer down at 2 mins after you click on it....
I suggest you update your antivirus and run a complete scan.
also post that list of processes and maybe we can recognise any weird ones that might suggest you have spyware or viruses in your comp

don't know a great deal about comps either but if you bring up your task bar, go to processes and just google each process including the ".exe" part and see if any spyware etc is known from it.

that shutdown shortcut only cuts out having to hit start-turn off computer before being able to hit shutdown. That probably won't make any difference. If I had to venture a guess your problem could be an application hang that prevents the computer from shutting down fast because there is something still running that may not be actually showing up in the application tab of the task manager. The other slightly more scary thought is you could be in for a hard drive crash soon. I have seen bad hard drives get hung up trying to shut down for hours! Just as an example I have 42 processes running on my computer (3.2GHZ pentium 4, 2GB ram) and it shuts down in about 8 seconds so the number of processes really shouldn't make that much difference unless you have an older weaker machine. First off, tell me more about your machine like what CPU you have, how much ram etc. If your machine is a few years old you probably could greatly benifit from a RAM uprgrade that could be an easy and vinexpensive way of solving your problems. Go to www.crucial.com and run their system scanner, then post up the info about your machine including the recommended RAM upgrade they tell you.

If it says that in the system info it means you have 356mbof actual memory with 32mb reserved as shared video memory. This is a SERIOUSLY weak amount dude! With a 2GHZ processor you could be running ssssoooo much better with a ram upgrade. All the virus scans and hard drive defrags in the world ain't gonna help with such a low amount of ram. It's absolutely dirst cheap and a total breeze to install, it's just a snap in place part. In fact if you have a laptop I have some spares laying around I'd be happy to send you, provided they are compatible. Like I said go to www.crucial.com and run the system scan, it only takes like 20 seconds! Let me know what it says you have and what you need I probably have some I could give you.

well that's good infact because you can find desktop ram for absolutely dirt cheap. A 512mb stick for desktops is next to nothing.
You most likely have 2 ram slots on your motherboard, your current 256mb of ram in one slot and the other slot empty. I would guess your maximum ram upgrade would be 1GB per slot for a total of 2GB. If you did even as small as a single 512mb stick added alongside your current ram it woudl feel like almost a whole new computer! Everything you do would feel much faster including start up and shut down.
Post up the scan results asap!

dude if you upgraded to the full amount your comp would run sssooo much better. Two 512mb sticks would be pretty nice as well, you could check eBay if you want them cheap! Really easy to install as well, open it up and snap it into palce simple as that.
