Stop the clocks is great, i haven't got bored of it yet...record machine on the other hand is ok... and i don't find the urge to repeat after it's over, but stop the clocks i do...
if a final version of either 2 never appear... i'm ok with these "demos".

the truly great oasis song are both durable and addictive. that said, you feel like hearing them all the time and are amazed at how fast they've past when you are in the process of listening to them. For me at least STC doesn't have that like some of the previus classics (or for that matter like Record Machine, which is always over far to fast!!)...it kind of plods a bit...that said, it would make a great b-side for the first single. I find both Stop the Clocks AND Record Machine addictive, and they're only demos. If the finals versions are worked on properly, these will be propelled into my - and most likely most people's - top 10 fav Oasis songs And if it's only a B-Side then Noel hasn't learned from his past mistakes - it's too good to be a b-side. The Quiet Ones and shit like that deserve b-side classification, not classy songs with huge potential like STC

back to the original thread.... the lyrics are beautiful. some of noels best and obviously very personal to him, describing the intense pain of a failed relationship, knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but wondering if he can make it there (but if im already dead how would i know) didn't noel say it was about 9/11? - the words fit in well if this is wat it is about?

No. It's about how do you know if your dreaming and/or dead. Wikipedia best explains it: It was written whilst Liam Gallagher was recording vocals for "Stop Crying Your Heart Out", during recording sessions for Heathen Chemistry, sometime in 2001, and was first mentioned in interviews by Noel in the Autumn of 2002. Noel told Tokyo's J-Wave radio station that it's about, "A dream I had one night. It's wondering about if you were dead, how would you know you were actually dead, how would you know you were actually alive. When you go to bed and you dream dreams... if you never woke up, how would you know? Maybe we're all just dreaming now." [1] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_the_Clocks_%28song%29

It's not about any subject. This isn't up for debate. Noel Gallagher said what it's about. He wrote the song. I think he would know.....

Going to sleep and never waking up 2. The aftermath of 9/11

i can understand the going to sleep and never waking up theme, but 9/11? come on! it may have been an inspiration, but the lyrics are way too abstract to be about such a specific event. again, the above is just how i interpreted the lyrics without reading any interviews etc... im sure there are others amongst you who have interpreted a piece of art in a different way to what was intended by the artist. once it is out there, art ceases to be the property of the artist.

I was trying to think as to when he said it was about 9/11 - i think it was an interview at the glastonbury gig a few years back when the also said "i don't think we will ever play this one live"
Anyways STC and record machine are amazing songs

I'm sorry if this question have been asked before, but I'm not gonna search for it in the about thousand threads there is about Stop The Clocks on this forum, so I'll just ask it here:
Does Stop The Clocks really sound anything like The La's Looking Glass? For anyone who have heard Stop The Clocks, but haven't heard Looking Glass:
The reason I ask is because I haven't heard Stop The Clocks yet, but I really love Looking Glass, and think it is a beautiful song!

Yeah they are quite similar. It's not like Noel's blatantly ripping off Looking Glass but you can definitely hear the influence. He does use the line "Turn the world around" from Looking Glass though.

I was talking to Chris from Coldplay and he confirmed STC will be on the next album. He also laughed when I told him "Tom" from Kasabian said it wouldn't be on the album.
