was just going through some of my old oasis bsides and it made me remember what a top notch vocalist liam was back in the day , (but not just the bsides of course) for example: fade away, rockin' chair, slide away, she's electric, do y' know what i mean, cigs and alc,, etc. etc. i could go on and on! during the first three albums especially (however he has had his shining moments since, ala let's all make believe, go let it out, stop crying your heart out etc.)-- but as in terms of being a true vocalist ,, a true rock n roll vocalist that is, he stood above and beyond everyone else for quite some time in that department imo,, off the top of my head i can think of only a few names that could even come close to touching him (freddy mercury-queen, brad delp-boston, and maybe maybe robert plant) but as most lead singers scream and holler over songs, liam used to actually sing them, (over noel's loud guitars nonetheless!) and make it look and sound real easy ... .just my 00.2

I reckon Richard Ashcroft deserves a mention. Fucking great singer.

I always found it funny that he said he hated his voice, so he changed the way he sang, and you can really hear it when you compare the DM demos to the current batch of tunes. He completely changed it. Although I guess the cigarettes and alcohol probably didn't help

I don't think Liam's ever had a very good range, but with him, it's not about how technically proficient he is, it's about how he sings the songs.
Still, it'd like to see him try some of Noel's vocal parts.

Cobain is number one voice of the 90's bar none. Its Liams swagger that does it for me though, thats what got me hooked on oasis. Love the snotty attitude!

Still, it'd like to see him try some of Noel's vocal parts. What!? He used to hit the HIGH parts in Live Forever ! On several early TV performances in 1994 Liam would sing the backing vocals as well as the vocals! ("Gonna live foreverrrrrr!!).....Liam was a angelic like when the started....I am the Walrus ("I'm Crryyyyyying!!!!") other example...anyways without blabbing on in ANOTHER Liam's vocal thread...Liam can still sing....not angelic like anymore....if he takes care of it, doesn't scream, he will be okay.

I would put Liam on par with Roger Daltrey, and thats pretty high praise. Freddie Mercury is the greatest in terms of pure vocal power and range. Richard Ashcroft is damn good singer as well, maybe just ahead of Liam because his voice hasnt deteriorated so much from what ive seen.

Richard Ashcroft is damn good singer as well, maybe just ahead of Liam because his voice hasnt deteriorated so much from what ive seen. Actually, Ashcroft has become a far better singer than he was when he started out. Liam's lost the "tweety-bird" range he showed on Live Forever, and goes nasally pretty frequently now, but he's still pretty successful and powerful (Lyla). Anyway, have a listen to A Storm in Heaven or A Northern Soul, then try anything on Keys to the World or Human Conditions. Ashcroft really smartened up about being a serious vocalist. If he was as solid as he is now, "History" would have gone down as a complete classic.
