Noel is pretty restrictive on what he allows drummers to do in Oasis. Does anyone agree with this? I reckon it could be the reason why Zak appears to be on the move. Oasis drum tracks are very, very conservative. Not many fills and very few (if any) changes in tempo. Reckon Zak may have wanted a little bit more freedom (like he has in The Who). Thoughts?
Starkey is a huge loss. Liam said the album is 'rockin' yet they've shed one of the great powerhouse rock drummers in the world. Alan White should definitely NOT be asked to come back. His drumming on the Heathen Chemistry tour was dull, lifeless and generic. No power or spirit. Terry K is a lightweight too. Fiddly and slightly inspid, from what I've seen. Steve White would fit, but given what happened to his brother, there is no chance he'll get the gig.
Shit news. I blame Noel. Melodyacholic, musical sweet tooth in his old(ish) age.
Rant over!

Alan left because he wasn't aloud to express himself on HC and because the drums were far down in the mix you could hardly hear them. I'd hardly call him dull based on that.

alan left because basically he wasnt committed to the dbtt sessions not cos of freedom an leaks,he did tho have a good say in the structuring of songs an him an noel were close when it came to songwriting so the heathen drumming will have been alans idea, although i dont think he liked playing to drum loops alot.

couldnt agree more passmedownthewine. i.m.o starkey is was the best musician in the band and his loss shouldnt be underestimated. having seen both oasis and the who live i dont think his potential with the band has been realised. you cant call oasis 'rock n roll' with alan white on drums. he's so predictable and lightweight, zak gave the band the kick up the arse it needed on the last tour and album. lets hope this story is untrue but i have a feeling its not.

Im afraid that I really have to disagree with this statement. I would fully say that it was the other way around! I remember being really excited about seeing Zak Starkey play with Oasis at Glastonbury having seen him with The Who a few times but my god was he a let down! I know you could say the whole band were at that gig but I saw them a few times during 2004/2005 and he it was always really simple drumming. I dont know if Noel told him to hold back or what but everything was so turgid and basic and on the beat. Listen to the drumming on the album version of Wonderwall for example and then listen to Zak playing it live. Theres no comparison. And Whitey can rock out like the best of them, look at Rock n Roll Star, My Generation, My Big Mouth, Fade in Out etc... I really dont know where all this Alan White was crap talk is coming from but he was the man and if oasis could get him back then they would be doing alright! Alan White, hes alright!

Alan White wouldnt come back and Steve White wouldnt either. I met Steve just before DBTT come out, and he was hoping it would flop coz apparently Noel treated his bro really badly. He said Steve had given up of drums after that. So this gig in London where Alans gonna join Steve on stage is obviously to get his confidence back
