i bought an 80g ipod classic about 2 weeks ago,i nboticed last night the batt died.anyway i connected it to my comp & this round circle came up witha line through it on my ipod ... i waited a while then when the itunes page came up it said my ipod cant be connected & i needed to restore it,so i've restored it but it hasn't helped.it said to download 7.6. itunes the thing is if that's the case why didn't i need 7.6. before? i guess i gotta rip all my cds onto itunes again now.it's gonna take hours also when i've added video files to my ipod then disconnected i've then deleted vids from my comp, next time i put my ipod into my usb the vids are still there on my ipod. my question is when i add pics to my ipod then delete folders from computer, when i next conect my ipod the pictures move cuz i've deleted the folders?? i think it's stupid having to keep all folders on computer so they dont remove from my ipod, can anyone help with this?

basically your ipod is a copy of whatever you play in itunes. if you delete a track from itunes, next sync, it deletes from ipod. If you move or delete any of the photos in the photo file, then the same happens.
if you updated to itunes 7.6 then you shouldnt have to re rip your music as itunes should just update the database.
have you tried a hard reset of your ipod, youd have to google for correct combination of buttons but its an easy way to reset your ipod. doesnt delete any of the music on it, just resets it.
hope thats a help

If you use sharepod instead of itunes you don't have to have any of your songs saved on your computer!

I want to put a movie on my ipod but not keep a 5GB file on my computer afterwards. I found a sorta solution by using an external hard drive and only plugging it in when I sync it seems to work but it's irritating

You don't have to keep the files on the computer as long as they're in your itunes library I would never keep all those CDs on my laptop!!!

Or when you plug your ipod in, go to "music" at the top of the screen and deselect "sync music" button and the same with movies, podcasts, pics etc. I think you need to deselect it at the options in middle of the screen where it says "sync only checked songs and videos", but I think when you do this it erases everything off then you have manually put it back on which takes a while depending how much data is going on there.
