cut the shit.
growers aren't classics and never will be. if you have to listen to a song several times before you like it, you're trying too hard to like it. this is an oasis site and if oasis fans are categorizing songs as growers, then you're simply fooling yourselves- we all love this band and that's why some rationalize why they don't like it in the beginning and classify it as a grower. if you're a huge oasis fan you should now be able to admit when the song is the same old, same old. a grower is when you listen to hindi music (or "space jazz") and don't know what the fuck they're talking about or what instruments they play, but you keep coming back cause there's something different and gripping to it. i saw another post and somebody called "i am the walrus" and "sympathy for the devil" growers- these are only growers when you're used to listening to shit and realize that there's better music out there than the crap on the radio. we, as oasis fans, know better.
anyway- its good when we don't call unacceptable oasis stuff crap and not "growers". check out how fast oasis officially reminded everyone how old the songs were and that they were in fact demos. damage control.
be objective and not patronizing- noel needs to hear this shit once in a while.

A complex song may take several listens to apreciate the artistic approach. A 'grower' as some might say. None of Noels songs are this complex though, I'll give you that.

Hey downs.....go fuck yourself!!!
DLBIA grew to be bigger than Wonderwall....especially live and so has songs like SCYHO and DBTT as an album.
Go away.......that sentiment may grow to........... piss off!!!

STC and RM are good songs, but will never be classics as that would be an insult to the real ones.

You're missing out on so many good tunes then, Oasis or not, if you only listen to something once. What a narrow minded view Here's an analogy for you: If you go see a movie, but walk out unimpressed, or confused, and thus claim you don't like it, chances are you ust simply didnt understand it or didnt appreciate it for what it was. If you give that movie a second chance, you might be able t see how x and y connect to produce z, etc, and it becomes clearer to you that the film your originally thought was crap is actually a work of art. As for a musical analogy, Lyla provides a good example. We all hated that song when it leaked out in 2005. I was like "WTF is this shit", but after a few listens and getting used to how Liam sung it, i liked it. And so did the general public - its huge live, and went in their greatest hits collection. So don't tell me growers are shit. They arent shit. You are shit. I would really hate to be you. Open your fucking mind. Just because something doesnt grab your attention right away doesn't mean its bad, and it doesn't mean its low quality. In fact, it's even better for bring like that because it makes you think..... Idiot.

I agree with Headshrinker. Another way of looking at growers is that they can only appeal to you in the right setting/mood frame etc, hence the wait.

lyla does not provide a good example. there's no x and y and z. there's no meaning at all.
we're not talking about quality indie films or eccentric spanish movies that take a couple of goes before it all sinks in. it means there's something intruiging oneself to go back and check out what may have been missed. as for lyla, nothing sinks in except that its a pop-y first single and it makes people (enthusiastically) pogo. and it's great for that.
i think we're all confident enough in our love for oasis to know that if it isn't a great tune on the first couple listens we can admit that its shit. after all these years, we know when it's classic or not. it's time to raise the bar and expectations.
"open your mind" and call a spade a spade. it's what liam would do, and we all know how much you and your queue-jumping skillz respect that.

All this thread is around STC been a grower. The point is that the song is beautiful imo from the first listen, and then gets more interesting when you listen to it again. Their are songs that every time you listen to them you find something different on em. Maybe the track doesnt hit your expectations cause with the publicity you expected a cross between Live Forever, Stairway To Heaven and A Day in The Life,, but nevertheless is a pretty good song. My honest opinion is that with the expectations i thought that the song was gonna be hated by everyone of us, but is that good that most of us, besides all the stories behind it, find it excellent... I don't know... i guess you are entitled to think that if a song doesn't hit you from the first listen then you dont like it.....
but your wrong.. ;D
Songs that grew on me and are not bad tunes at all...
The Beatles- I Am The Walrus, Helter Skelter The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil Led Zeppelin - No Quarter Pink Floyd - Dogs The Clash - London Calling NIN - Hurt Radiohead - Airbag Oasis- Lets All Make Believe, Stop The Clocks, Lyla Neil Young Heart Of Gold - Bob Dylan A Hard Rain 's A Gonna Fall -
And Many More

right, but the point is (and i like your tunes except stc and lyla) all these songs make a definite statement immediately. that's why they are classics and not if-i-listen-enough-to-them-i'll-end-up-liking-them-cause-well-they're-oasis-and-its-my-duty.
noel's not going to write 10 classics on every album, but to give stc and rm 11/10 is rediculous and unreasonable. we all need to remember that we're backing the best band in the world and we deserve better, dudes.
isn't anyone annoyed after all this time that we get the same silly allusions to noel's soul and being lost inside?
sorry that this may seem negative.

For me, the difficulty is that I have such huge expectations (read: unrealistic) before hearing a new oasis song. I am always setting myself up for disappointment (I almost cried when roll with it came out), so most often my first hearing of any oasis song is a let down and I have to listen to it a few times to grow into it.
It's funny (well perhaps not funny, ha ha) but often my first reaction when hearing a new oasis song is to compare (and hear the similarities) to an older song...when I first heard Masterplan I thought that Noel had ripped off Stairway to Heaven, the first time for DLBIA was all about Imagine, Lyla was streetfighting man, Go Let It Out was, to me, a copy of Fade In/out...so I suppose that it takes a few times for a song to gain its own identity...
as for the new songs...I question how, after all these years of build up, STC could not come in as underwhelming...come on, it has had five years of build up...it would've had to have been Strawberry Fields to meet expectations...it isn't quite that good but it is still a great song...I hope (and expect) that it will be a b side for the first single...(I love the killer b side hidden on the the first single for the 'true' fan...LAMB, Stay Young, Acquiesce, Talk Tonight, etc...)
I'm starting to really get into Record Machine (at first it felt like a BHN b side--little bit of FlashBax--and of course the Mucky Finger bass line will have to change) and I have to agree with the majority of posters who suggest that a ten minute version will be epic.
The Liam ditty is further proof that his greatest asset as a songwriter is a mellowing older brother that lets him put out his two chord shit as album filler. He is the monkey with the typewritter, who if given enough time will ultimately, type out a word or two. I hope that Boy With the Blues is as good as Courtney Love says it is. I hope that it is on the new album. I hope it is the only Liam tune on there. I am pleased that Noel is getting 7 tracks.
Please reread this post. Maybe it will grow on you.

I have loads of songs which I have failed to appreciate at first. It took me literally a year or so to fully appreciate The Libertines, but then they became one of my all time favourite bands.
