Being objective about Stop The Clocks is next to impossible but I'll try.
Initially I was disappointed, but I always knew I would be but after a couple of listens, as the melody grew more familiar I started to understand why its regarded highly by the band.
The recording sounds like its a very early, unmixed and abandoned, version so its most probably nothing like the version they put together with Sardy. Its the best of the DIV recordings but that isnt saying much. The DIV versions of the songs that ended up on DBTT are terrible, butchered mish-mashes of now-familiar songs. I was interested in hearing the DIV recordings but its obvious now why they were quickly abandoned. The only reason people are liking them is because its something new(ish) and different to mull over before anything official comes out.
Anyway, back to Stop The Clocks. The lyrics are great, particularly the first verse. Noels vocals arent the best but I'm sure he would nail the vocals before doing anything with it, I'd be interested to hear a Liam version too. After 3 listens that riff that lasts the whole bloody song irritates me, I suspect that will be substituted for something more dreamy and complex. It does fit in with the style of the songs on DBTT mind, its all about the melody though which is very, very good. At first it reminded me of Born Again by Starsailor but it is actually something far, far better than that.
All in all a polished studio version with all the traditional Oasis embellishments will go down a treat this summer, and now its leaked I doubt Noel has any reason to hold it back. I fully expect to hear a definitive version this year. But for a demo its very impressive.
PS, get rid of that bloody 'sound - sounds - sound' bit

Amazing tune, it really really is. It'll be better than Champagne Supernova if its true the final version is 3mins longer. What a tune!

Fair do's but I personally thought Record Machine was bit crap, the middle 8 is alright but the lyrics are dodgy and the chorus is very lazy. Although, like it says in the song, its all a matter of taste. I'm glad you like it though, it just seems a bit of a nothing song to me.

I can see why Noel didn't want STC to be on DBTT. Good tune, but the simple demo doesn't do it justice. A HUGE production would definitely suit it and I can see it being the next Champagne Supernova or The Masterplan with enough care.
