What are your honest expectations for the new album as we stand now, taking into account the little bits of confirmed information we have?
*If it's too long, don't fucking read it and just answer the damn question lol. But it's a good read though, I'm trying to stimulate a good discussion here.....(And since it's Oasis related and not shit like my post in the Lounge, lets your fuckin passion and love for the band take over! COME ON!!) --- For me, I've never been this excited about an Oasis album. Granted, DBTT was the album that sparked my obsession. BHN was my first ever album ever, let along Oasis, xmas 1997 when I was 10. Proceeded to get all their albums, and the MP, out of order, but by 2002 I had them all. Liked them, Oasis was already my fav band ever, but didn't appreciate it - too young to really understand the meaning of the songs. So, DBTT kick started it, so while most (older ppl basically) would regard BHN as the most anticipating, it wasnt for me.
In all honesty, I have incredibly high expectations for this album. I don't think it will be better than DM (almost impossible to do). It will be better than DBTT, and perhaps rival WTS.
Noel said that the 2000/STOSOG era he was very inspired. That was definietly seen in 2002's HC. But between 2002 and 2005, Oasis seem to have grown up. Perhaps the catalyst being the sacking of Whitey, showing that Noel is taking things more seriously?
The fact is, DBTT was scrapped and redone several times. If SOTSOG was taken as seriously, perhaps PYMWYMI would have been replaced with LAMB, along with other positive changed?....but this fact speaks volumes of Oasis as we stand now.
Liam has grown up. Barring the occasional outburst, he doesn't do stupid shit anymore. And his interviews, while not as witty or genius as Noel, are much more positive, talking in 2005 about how he's doing it for the love of Oasis, to saying that "There's no reason why Oasis can't go onto make another 6 great albums" -- maybe a slight exaggeration, but it's good to see Liam being passionate, and driven. After walking off MTV Unplugged in 1996 because he hated doing acoustic shows, only to give a great acoustic live performance 10 years later shows he's matured. Instead of taking his talent, successand fame for granted as he once did, he's now doing it for the pure love of it. Brilliant.
*NOTE: With Liams detioriting, now hit and miss voice, if he didn't mature as such, Oasis would be over I feel, or close to it.
Noel has always been the most mature of the brothers, but now he's 100% grown up. Always something inspiring to say in interviews. Doesn't act like a cock anymore lol. And the inspiration he lost in 2000 is indeed back. IOBI and POTQ shows Noel still has it. And while Liams voice has gotten worse, Noel has gotten better - slightly with the guitar, but MY GOD HIS VOICE IS STUNNING NOW.....he sings with emotion (Slide Away in the Acoustic Cabaret Tour in 2006), and passion (Don't Look Back in Anger, esp the "TAKE that look from off your face" and all of Little By Little)
Basically, Oasis as a group have shown from DBTT to present that they are as serious as ever. We've seen a solid world tour with a few MONUMENTAL gigs (Manchester 2005), a good Rockumentary, two new songs with WPTWOTWOMF and LDSMD - the former being a fantastic anthem as only Noel is capable of, and the former being an average, but still a good track. And let's not forget the few odd fantastic live performances along the way with the acoustic GGTIA from Liam, and Noel and Gem producing a superb show in France - I'm still blown away by how amazing that was.
The music critics said that DBTT was a "return to form." I truly believe that this album will show us, and the critics, that DBTT wasn't a fluke, it wasn't a one-off. All the above, which most of you have ignored, is evidence that Oasis is more driven, focused, passionate, and mature than ever. That's why I don't believe hte few lyrics posted - while not horrible, and while the sound might make up for it, I just don't think Noel will put up with that nonsense anymore. I just can't see Noel reverting back to the BHN/SOTSOG lyrics, writing "beat of the drum" and "girl with short curls".....not after the brilliance of IOBI AND one of Noel's best lines EVER from POTQ "Every Beginning Has Broken It's Promise"
Noel might sing that line with great conviction, but I believe that this new begining will yield fantastic success. It began in May 2005, and there's no reason not to believe that this momentum will carry them through to at least Summer of 2008, if not at the same time getting ever intenser.....
As always, and as ever, staying Mad Fer It ~HS

I hope it's better than DBTT... I mean I love the album, but I really miss the beautiful long solos, the orchestra at the back and the songs that lasted more than 5 minutes... for a coincidence, Noel promised all that to the new album... so I really hope it's not bullshit...

There's still some debate if Noel really did say it's a "Cross between BHN and DBTT" or if that's just a rumor. I swear Noel did say it though.....
Even if he didn't, his constant discriptions have given that impression anyway: "Throwing the kitchen sink at it"....."orchestras"......and he described the sure-to-be closer 'Record Machine as being "long, epic, similar to a Champagne Supernova/All Around the World song"
That last point is most significant, imo. It gives us a hint of what the album will be like -- cos surely if there's 10 acoustic tracks, and then a closer with guitar solos and big sounds doesnt make any sense! it wouldnt fit!
So I think there's strong evidence to suggest a monumental sound.
However, I'm still confused by the BHN/DBTT discription--> That's my ideal record: Good lyrics, but with monumental sound....best of both worlds from each both albums
But, wouldn't a BHN/DBTT hybrid be a DM?.....the only difference I can possibly see is that the guitars sound different in -- DM sounding more raw than BHN......
Or perhaps Noel is trying to avoid sounding full of shit again, claiming it to be as good as DM and maybe he truly thinks it's close to DM standards that he doesn't want to be disregarded as biased rhetoric and not have people writing off the album before it's even released? -- IE, carefully planned, subtle way, of suggesting it may very well be THAT dream every Oasis fan has, a DM 2.0 -- no matter how impossible that dream seems/seemed to be....

DM was EXTREMELY raw...the only reason it sounded so big was because of the brickwall mastering they put on the tracks. BHN was ridiculously layered over with guitars, Noel claims sometimes 50 of the same guitar - probably to try to mimic spector's "wall of sound" (like on all things must pass, for example). As for it being a BHN/DBTT "hybrid", well i fuckin hate when people talk like that, it just pisses me off (no offense) - like when people say STC is a cross between who feels love and champagne supernova or wahtever - that is just a terrible way to describe anything, and it doesn't help anybody envision what something will sound like. It's gonna be it's own album, that's it - no hybrid bullshit for me. All i know is it's gonna be mega.

I'm expecting some guitars, some drums, some vox, some keyboards...
You know, I'm just expecting some instruments to be played and some words to be sung.

This is actually my most anticipated Oasis album since becoming a fan in 2000. Maybe it's because Don't Believe The Truth was so good, that most of us on this board is expecting a new classic?
I for one, is very pleased that it probably is gonna be some long songs on it. If it turns out that there is orchestras similar to the ones used on Be Here Now, that'd be mega too. I really do hope it turns out to be another Be Here Now, as this is my favorite Oasis album.

I feel the same except that I don't like DBTT much I really don't have high expectations for that one If they keep going in the DBTT direction I'll like it but I won't be over the moon I'm kinda scared of being disappointed Time will tell

This is the first new Oasis release since I'm a fairly new fan. (I got into them after the release of DBTT). I remember watching LDSMD when it first aired on Swedish National TV and I was simply stunned about everything. They played The Importance Of Being Idle on some radioshow and I remember me thinking; "That was fucking genius". So I downloaded all the CD's and listened to them all day and night really. Now it's 2008 and I'm sitting here with all their singels, CD's, XX promos, DVD's, Posters, well everything you can think of.
The whole situation is pretty new for me, I can't really imagine new Oasis material being released and by that I have never been this excited of any album. Ever. I'm sure it's gonna be monumental, and DBTT was for sure a step in the right direction.

Here are my expectations:
1. 10-12 songs. 2. First single will be another giberish Lyla/Hindu times/Let It Out-ish tune and reach no. 1 in the UK charts. 3. Second single will be a ballad. Most likely Noel-sung. 4. Liam will have at least 2-3 tracks on the album. Probably only one will be a corker. 5. All members will contribute material, out of wich Noels will be best. 6. Noel will come out of the woodwork and say it's their best effort since Definitely Maybe. 7. 5-6 album tracks will be played live. 8. Stop The Clocks won't be on it. 9. B-sides will be good on the first single but shit on the rest. 10. Album will have a tongue in cheek title.
I find it hard to have real expectations though based on the fact we know nothing about this album.

God, I hope not. I mean, nothing against The Hindu Times and Lyla, their both brilliant tracks (Lyla being the far better one). But they sound so similar to each other. I really hope their new single will be a different style than those two "stomp along rockers".
4. Liam will have at least 2-3 tracks on the album. Probably only one will be a corker.
Hopefully, that song will be The Boy With The Blues! I'm dying to hear that song.
6. Noel will come out of the woodwork and say it's their best effort since Definitely Maybe.
I really hope that he won't, though. He said the same thing about Heathen Chemistry. Besides, he sets the expectations way to high for themselves, the fans, and the reviewers. Definitely Maybe is a legendary album, one that is very difficult to remake I would believe.

It would be refreshing if Noel came out and said this album is our worst ever, don't buy it. 12 seconds of anything off DM is better than all the songs on this whole album.

i don't know why everyone has to be so critical of them. their absolute worst album since definitly maybe, whichever you may feel it is, is better than any of the other rubbish put out by anyone else. whether you think sotsog is shit or hc or bhn or dbtt or all four, they are ALL fantastic albums and yes not as good as definitly maybe but come on, they are timeless records. i'm just as excited for this record as ever and am ready for some new material. they are the best band in the world still and im confident that this record will be great again. as for all those critics who constantly put them down, who gives a fuck?

Doesn't really matter what the album is like, they can't please everyone. Thats why they just do what they've always done "R'n'R music". The only thing you can hope for is that you like it.

What I HOPE is that its a classic but my honest expectations (based on three lukewarm releases since BHN)
It will be OK, very competant but it will still fall short of the first two,
Time will tell and I hope I am wrong.
I have given up telling my cynical freinds how this bew oasis album will be the best ever only to have egg on my face!
