I personally dont care the Monkeys. I would say Kasabian have a better overall chance of "replacing" Oasis on some level in the public consciousness. But I live in Florida, what do i know...

The Arctic Monkeys are far better performers now than they were just a few years ago IMO, having seen them again twice last year. I love there latest album. As for Kasabian, Velociraptor hasn't been as great as WRPLA was. I seen Kasabian on there tour last year to. For me the Arctic Monkeys edge it and probably are the Oasis of their generation. Kasabian didn't have the same early hype that AM's did.

They're both frontmen, but it's futile to compare a singer to a singer/lead guitarist/songwriter. Liam was a better vocalist, but Alex has an all-round package. Secondly, few fans would call Alex's peak 2006. Commercially yes, but certainly not artistically, whereas Liam had both at once in '94. I'd go for 2008, whereas most fans would pick 2009 (Humbug), then '07 (Favourite Worst Nightmare).

And I'd agree, Turner's peak was Last Shadow Puppets/Humbug, though their latest puts up a good argument.

Alex Turner obviously is also a great singer and has a very distinctive voice as well. Still, you cannot compare them, they're totally different persons.

Well, you can compare them, but not in one category. Alex is a better songwriter and musician, Liam was a better vocalist.

There is no Oasis of this generation, at least not a guitar band that compares to them (as in how big Oasis were). The music business has changed so much since the 90s even, Oasis got there just in time in terms of being the band that defined an era.

I love the new single! You can hear Josh Hommes influence like on "Humbug". I missed this on "Suck It And See" (which was a great album tough).

Sounds good, the chorus hook reminds me of Scorpio Rising.

Signed up just to post in this thread really, fucking love Arctic Monkeys and it saddens me reading fellow Oasis fans play them down, they are an epic band and Turner is one hell of a songwriter, Oasis will always be my fav band forever like but you can't not like the Monkeys man. Had to laugh at the poster who said they preferred the Kaiser Chiefs, LMFAO
Saying that though pleased to see plenty others who do like them, they are the best band in England and have been ever since Oasis split, IMO

Arctic Monkeys are alright, nothing special. Suck It And See is a pretty good album but apart from that most of their music is average. Some good tunes but nothing special. Oasis of their generation, popularity wise - yes, musically - no chance.

Totally disagree mate, they are far from 'average' and have tons of good songs, 4 solid albums all with a different feel to each one, and numerous high quality b-sides and cover versions also. Best band around at the minute, by a mile for me.

Best band around at the minute, by a mile for me. Their music is nothing special and there are tons of bands out there that are better than the Arctic Monkeys. The Coral, Stereophonics, Tame Impala, Grizzly Bear, Miles Kane, Yo La Tengo, Proud Mary etc. etc. Now these guys have diverse songs and songs that actually stick in your head. Apart from Suck It And See there hasn't been an Arctic Monkeys album that has really been gripping. They don't have any albums even remotely comparable to Definitely Maybe, Morning Glory or even Be Here Now. They're good but when you say Oasis of their generation, I totally disagree, there just aren't enough classics in their discography to be given that mantle. But that's just my opinion.

It's either gotta be Arctic Monkeys or Kasabian for me

Oasis are better than the Arctic's mate, I am not disputing that don't get me wrong, but those others you mentioned are nowhere near them mate, at all. Miles Kane? Didn't Turner write half his album for him anyway?
Its not about Oasis vs Arctics for me, its about the Arctics being better than the others, especially the ones you listed. Kasabian would be the closest challengers IMO, but the Arctic's have WAY more good songs.

Didn't Turner write half his album for him anyway? I never said that you said they're better than Oasis. Anyway all of this is subjective, My point is you were talking about diversity. All those bands have something diverse. The first 2 AM albums sound the same and the next 2 sound like each other. I cited those bands for that reason. They might not be bigger than the Arctic Monkeys commercially but their music speaks for itself. If only popularity were the measure of one's greatness then the likes Of Nikki Minaj would rule the world.

Basically they're good, I'm not disputing that but Oasis of their generation - No.
