Anyone attend the Maine Road shows?
I attended the second night on the Sunday (the one which is used for There & Then) and during the afternoon I remember the streets outside Maine Road packed full of people hopeful to buy a ticket from a scalper. Hundreds of fans parting with their cash for vastly inflated prices. Word going round that £300 pounds (roughly $600 dollars) was the asking price for one ticket. The weather was awful and rain was on and off throughout the day. Me and my mate spent most of the afternoon in scruffy seedy bar off the beaten track. A real rough shit hole. We got talking to other oasis fans and we found out that rumours were going round the pub that people were getting robbed of their oasis ticket in the pub toilets. I didn’t see this, but it was definitely a rough atmosphere in the pub and outside in the Moss Side area. I also remember coming out of the pub and coaches full of Manchester United fans were passing by on the road. I think United were at home that day to Nottingham Forest. I think most people hurled abuse at the United fans and some even threw stones.
In the venue we caught a great support set from Manic Street Preachers. We missed Ocean Colour Scene. The other act Cast didn’t play for some reason. The entrance for Oasis was begun by the sound of a helicopter. This lasted for quite sometime before Noel walked out. Shame it didn’t show much of this entrance on the There & Then release. Highlights was the crowd. Probably the best crowd I have ever been in all my time going to concerts. The whole stadium rocked from the first song to the last. A funny incident was when they played ‘whatever’. I think Liam forget the words and the song came to a crashing halt. What followed was a row between him and Noel. The song starts again and this time it’s Noel that sings. Not to be outdone Liam steals the glory by sitting on the stage floor in the middle and lights up a joint. The video cameras pick this up and display him smoking a joint on the big screens. He got a massive cheer. Shame this wasn’t shown on the There & Then release. Champagne Supernova was awesome and went on forever. Live Forever was amazing, especially with all the faces of dead icons. I am the Walrus brilliant and Cum On Feel The Noize was the best ending to a show I’ve seen.
I really could go on an on.
Anyone else go to the Maine Road shows.?

Great story, mate. Wish I was there to. I also wish I was at Knebworth to. I was just 11 years old in 1996, and I wasn't into the group until four years later.

Sorry i don't have any photos. Although there are plenty of good photos all over the internet. Noel was dressed in a green and blue golfing jacket with a Union Jack guitar. Liam in a blue Umbro training top. I had a spare ticket for Maine Road as well, which i struggled to get rid off.

Yeah, I was there. I went to the night before you mate, the Saturday.
Me and a mate got the train to Manchester and when we get off at Piccadilly there were loads of fans there. We didn't know what bus to get to Maine Road but followed the crowds and asked this bloke in a cricket hat who was plainly off his nut.
Manchester was Oasis central that weekend - there was this huge billboard in the city centre with them on it and the slogan ' Rockin'.... all over the world' - it's the same picture that was on an official fan club mailout at the time.
We'd had a few beers on the train so we went straight in and got places pretty near the front, right near the front enclosure. I'm pretty sure I can see myself on the front cover of There and Then - but it might just be wishful thinking!
Can't remember whether we saw the Manics or not, think we did as I seem to remember 'A Design For Life', but I remember Ocean Colour Scene playing. Cast had to cancel because their drummer had broken his arm.
I remember the helicopter noise starting and Liam's eye from the album artwork appearing on the giant screens - the place went f*cking mental.
My mate lost his trainer as everyone pushed forwards and he said he was going a bit further back but there was no way I was giving up my spot so I stayed where I was.
Noel and the rest of the band launched into Swamp Song then Liam sauntered on and everything went mad again.
Live Forever stood out for me too. Liam had no idea there was that montage on the screen behind him and at the end he said something like: "I didn't know they were doing that. Thanks a lot to whoever did that."
The gig seemed to pass by in a flash and then we were back on the street, trying to find our way back to Fallowfield where we were staying with a mate of mine for the night.
We were followed for a while by some lunatic who kept banging on about the Stereo MCs and then we headed off into the night, still breathless from the gig and looking for our next beer.
Amazing day - one of the best ever.

One of my friends went on the Saturday and that was rocking. I have both bootlegs and they are pretty much the same. Did you know that the first night to go on sale was actually the Sunday. Sunday was the only night Oasis were going to play. Then later once Sunday had sold out they announced a second show which would take place the day before on the Saturday. Pointless triva to anyone who's bothered........

To be perfectly honest, the weekend just kinda rolled into one...... mixture of being hyped up and off my head!! Probably the 1st night, simply because it was the 1st night, but both were superb, the entire weekend was amazing!! One of those special times which will never be repeated, I guess.
