STC was the compilation branch of Sony and HIP-O was the compilation music/video branch of Universal. The writing was on the wall that Oasis was going to Universal years ago when they signed Liam to a publishing deal. They wouldn't have signed him based on LJ, so that was a preemptive strike on their part to get Oasis signed to the deal they now have...

Columbia is a Sony owned label. STC was their last record fulfilling the contract with them.
