DBTT is known for it not being an anthem filler like previous albums. And that would seem to be a let down for live performances.
However, i'm rather surprised.
I just bought the LDSMD DVD and watched the full Man City gig in 2005. Already saw most of it on youtube several months ago, but still...
And look at the success of those songs
TUTS proved to be a wicked opener. Lyla is real stomper and seems great live Importance of Being Idle is just ace in the same way Little by Little is Mucky Fingers is the let down on the album, but improved live, and the outro drumming by Zak is insane - that saves that song
A Bell Will Ring: i'm not a personal fan of that song to begin with, so heh Meaning of Soul: Energy filled, we knew it would be good live
Just wish Liam tried singing LLAB cos thats mega
but DBTT seems to be a success in my opinion
The entire album stands up even almost 3 years after release, and a handful of great tunes played live.....

Yeah, those songs were mega live! Mucky Fingers sounds definitely better live as you say. I also really liked The Meaning Of Soul live. Great energy in that song, and I also liked that they made it a bit longer than the studio version.
Another song that I enjoyed hearing live was Guess God Thinks I'm Abel. When they started playing that (I do believe it was on the encore, it sounded like the start of a new song! Great stuff!). But Didn't they play Love Like A Bomb on a couple of dates in U.S?

good thread mate, i agree DBTT is a good album, but you're rigt some of the songs sound even better live.
For me tho Lyla and TIOBI are both outstanding and are definatly up there with the bands best work. I think both live and the recorded versions sound great.
For me DBTT is a good album and contains some tracks which are the up there with the bands best work ie. Lyla, TIOBI and LTBL. it also has some other very good tracks too TUTS, LLAB, MF, GGTIA.
I think in the recent past the band have made some average albums but they have contained tracks which are up there with their best work eg
SOTSOG: FITB, GLIT, GP HC: SCYHO, Songbird
turn up the sun: Agree with you about this one, its a great opener both on the album and live. Mucky Fingers: The more i listen to it the more i like it. when played live it is really good, zak's drumming is outstanding. Meaning of soul: so much energy, sonds great GGTIA: The album version sounds alright, but i liked they way they changed it to play it live. A bell will ring: Not one of my favorites really, but to be honest i don't give it a chance and listen to it much.

yeah they played LLAB in Boston for sure, a couple other times as well i do believe. Was it any good then? I really wanna hear that one! I think Noel maybe should have given Let There Be Love the semi-acoustic treatment and included it on his Stop The Clocks tour. That would've sounded great I think! Maybe along with Part Of The Queue too?
