I'm not saying I wouldn't take the money if it was offered to me.
I'm just not condoning it. This kind of deal is destructive to the game.
Beckham's got to go some way towards justifying it now. How he does that is up to him; his football, no matter how good, will never be enough to earn him respect, from the fans or from his fellow professionals. Some of that money has to go back into the game. Be it through his Soccer Schools, re-investment in minor clubs, anything. Football has given him much more than he deserves, and he needs to start repaying that debt.
That's certainly what I'd be doing; out of respect for myself, my peers, and for football itself.

Hasn't he set up the David Beckham Footballing Academy, to start with? (when I say "set up", of course I mean "financed")
And I'd be surprised if he hasn't been doing other stuff too about giving something back to the game...

Point is, now he's earning four times as much he should be doing four times as much.

ffs LA are so stupid. they could've brought 4 good players with all that money. there's something more about that contract. two points:
*MLS is financing some of it to get some buzz afterall
*LA will have new players from his school in some exclusive point

Becks is an excellent player for MLS, I'm sure he'll be the best one there Without a doubt he will be one, if not the best player in the whole league. But the thing is, he's gonna put a lot of noses out of joint in his team because he will be earning 500 times the amount that any other LA Galaxy player earns. I know how I'd feel if I found out any of the guys I work with earned 500 times more than me for doing the same job. Yes football is different from "normal" jobs so that has to be taken into account. But 500 times more than any of the other players at the club is pretty outrageous. I don't think he will have a lot of friends in that particular dressing room.

For example, Real Madrid president said some days ago that the first goalkeeper, Casillas, earns 9'000'000 euros, and the second one earns 300'000. it's 30 times more, but their relationship isnt bad. there's no need to be friend of all the other players, and I'm sure Becks will take good things to the Galaxy dressing room

Maybe he'll give them some free disney dvd-s and they'll all be friends then. Maybe free disney world tickets to see the new attraction?
Maybe he'll be the one to boost euro disney!
;D
