Theo Walcott and Aaron Lennon are in England's provisional World Cup squad, but Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jermain Defoe and Ledley King miss out.
Arsenal teenager Walcott is one of only four strikers in Sven-Goran Eriksson's 23-man squad, alongside injured pair Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen.
Darren Bent misses out, while Defoe is on a five-man standby list.
Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing and Bayern Munich's Owen Hargreaves are other surprise inclusions.
Chelsea winger Wright-Phillips, an England squad regular this season, does not even make the standby list, which also includes uncapped West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker.
Provisional squad: Robinson (Tottenham), James (Manchester City), Green (Norwich); G Neville (Manchester United), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Terry (Chelsea), Cole (Arsenal), Campbell (Arsenal), Carragher (Liverpool), Bridge (Chelsea), Beckham (Real Madrid), Carrick (Tottenham), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Jenas (Totenham), Downing (Middlesbrough), J Cole (Chelsea), Lennon (Tottenham), Rooney (Manchester United), Owen (Newcastle), Crouch (Liverpool), Walcott (Arsenal).
Standby: Scott Carson (Liverpool), Luke Young (Charlton), Nigel Reo-Coker (West Ham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Andy Johnson (Crystal Palace).

What the fuck is Sven on? Putting Walcott in over Bent AND Defoe?!?! They may not be international proven, but at least those 2 are premiership proven, which can't be said for Walcott!
And he's put Hargreaves in as well? Bloody hell!
And 2 of the 4 strikers he's chosen are injured, and might not even make it. Great choices Sven.

Dilly - our odds are getting stronger by the day. Walcott hasn't played 1st team football yet, we are taking rooney & Owen neither maybe able to kick a ball Why no Defoe? I really find Hargreaves a very average player.

I cant understand why he's picked Walcott ahead of the likes of Defoe
Glad to see David James still in there though, I reckon he should be first choice keeper for England ;D

hargreaves is alrite, if bayern rate him he cant be that bad, i think its been unfortunate for him that sven sends him onto the pitch at the strangest times, wich makes him look bad as for walcott, a handful of championship games and hes in the squad??? Campbell shud be counting his lucky stars too but at least he picked lennon and downing, good choices

If Arsene Wenger paid £12million for him, he is a superstar in the making, get him in there and let him loose on the Big Stage, who knows he could be a world beater. He has no expectations on his shoulders, no established BIG reputations to uphold and can just get stuck in, unless of course the English WANK media hound and slate him before he kicks a ball! Thierry Henry said Theo is the fastest player at Arsenal with an awesome amount of talent, not bad to be quicker than Eboue and Henry!. A surprise choice I agree but lets just see, he could go out unknown but come back another Rooney in the making!....and Defoe should have been included in the squad for sure!

all this talk about walcott - but no one is asking why crouch is there. I'd take defoe, bent and johnson over him any day.
a guy like harewood plays a similar game to rooney so wouldn't he be a good choice as well?
anyway i think there shouldn't be such a big fuss about forwards on england because their strength is at midfield. With attacking mid fielders like gerrard and lampard you really don't have to worry about getting the ball up there.

walcott's inclusion is a stroke of genius he has pace and is fearless. if you have ever seen him play you won't be doubting him.
dissapointed that W-phillips isn't in the squad though.
as for 2 strikers being injured he can replace them at anytime so it dosent worry me greatly, what does though is that one of the fit strikers is crouch and i think he is only in the england team as he is an option, good player that he is i don't think he is good enough for an england team that will be challanging for the world cup.
overall a good squad there are always one or two players i disagree with at every major competition but i think this squad could go all the way

I feel sorry for Bent. 18 league goals with a mediocre team like Charlton and Walcott gets in instead of him. Sven is an idiot. He is taking risks at the wrong time. He should have taken risks when we were losing to Brazil in 2002.

For my team, give me Heskey all life... your welcome to him mate, maybe the team you support could buy him after all Birmingham just got relegated so he'll be going on the cheap lol but maybe a change will do him good and he will get good again but I doubt it.
