Prison staff at Wakefield jail are asked not to wear St George's Cross tie-pins they had bought to support a cancer charity.
The English national flag could be "misinterpreted" as a racist symbol, says Chief Inspector of Prisons Anne Owers.
She added that race was a weak area at the prison, where all the warders are white and 16% of inmates are from ethnic minorities.
The top security jail is home to child killer Ian Huntley, and Harold Shipman killed himself there last year.
"If the only problem the chief inspector found was tie pins carrying the cross of St George, which is after all the English national flag, then there can't be a lot wrong with Wakefield prison," says Brian Caton of the Prison Officers' Association

Another example of PC gone mad. Personally I think its great that the English have finally discovered what their national flag is after hi-jacking the British one for so many centuries.

Ridiculous ! We're allowed to promote/celebrate any other culture/country but our own !
If people don't like it then don't come to England. Simple as.
