Hooked on this tune that came out earlier in the week. Sounds like it'd come on the radio while you're cruising around America in 1968. And the artist is from Bristol! Just don't think about that. Think about 1960's Hollywood.

Funny you should mention this because that discussion I had with you about me finding new tracks I like (only coming about via Elton John's radio show), this was the song going through my head as one that grabbed me recently. A guy from the Black Keys is producing it which doesn't bother me (not really a fan of them) but that bluesy sound they do has been given a bit more charisma and verve with Yola. Top tune.

Ah, I didn't know that about the Black Keys! I hadn't heard of Yola to be honest, but I am already a fan of her soulful vocals and that retro sound together. Manages to come across vintage in an effortless way, rather than someone aping their influences into a weak imitation (heard the Greta Van Fleet album earlier today. Some fun tunes if you accept the clichΓ©s but fucking hell, an hour of "totally epic 70's rawk" gets tiring after a while). Anyway, this is the other tune from the last week that grabbed me, if you're interested. Hypnotic electro-pop tune with a chorus that's mysterious, sexy, and sad in just two lines: "Chaeri, please...you're killing me". Give it a go:

Been listening a lot to Grimes, Susanne Sundfor and Chvrches recently. This one is top though, never heard of them so going to do more digging.

Really love this version.
Mike Joyce's drumming on top just like the intro from The Queen Is Dead.
The Smiths were/are/will always be the best (to me anyway).
