By talented Lucy Rose. Absolute brilliant. What a song. I saw her in a very small venue 2 years ago and she was fantastic. Still loving her latest album and her work with Weller.

I saw her in a very small venue 2 years ago and she was fantastic. Still loving her latest album and her work with Weller. Also saw her open for Weller a few times in the States. Very brave of her to get up there and perform her delicate songs for that audience. She won a lot of people over.

Cardinal Song - The National I saw her in a very small venue 2 years ago and she was fantastic. Still loving her latest album and her work with Weller. Also saw her open for Weller a few times in the States. Very brave of her to get up there and perform her delicate songs for that audience. She won a lot of people over. My better half who had never heard of Lucy, said to me just after seeing her, "her music will fit Weller's", so I told him that she was supporting him and been working with him and he was like "correct!".

Lennon2217 Don't know why, but I've always had a penchant for those slightly clumsily-written works of art that capture an American, teenage feeling of heartache. Like the first Life is Strange game, if you've played it - cringey as fuck, but romantic because of that rather than in spite. And before (the brilliant) Folklore, that was Taylor's main wheelhouse, I suppose. This track from the vaults of the Fearless era nails it, all cheesy lyrics and genuine emotion and an instantly catchy tune. Good fun.

Mirel Wagner - Oak Tree
I always remember this performance on Jools Holland back in early 2015 as Noel was on it. I can't remember anything else about that show but this song always stuck in my mind from the word go.
Never heard of her since and yet so superior to most.

defmaybe00 , I'm not sure if this band is the solution to your rock 'n' roll ennui (their album is a bit one-note) but they are worth keeping an eye on! Part of that post-punk revival scene that's doing so well at the moment, but with the groovy instrumentals serving mainly to soundtrack the front woman's spoken-word lyrics. It's very funny and ironic and unique. Plus you can't go wrong with a chorus like "I came here to make a ceramic shoe. I came here to smash what you made. I came here to learn how to mingle, I came to join the knitting circle."

Oh I know them, although I had no idea they had album out, gonna check that out I have a weird love/hate relationship with this whole post-punk and spoken-word things at the minute, there seems to be a bit of an overflow on the scene and it's growing old a bit quicker than it should Besides the obvious Fontaines D.C. and Idles the only two bands that have impressed me so far are Do Nothing (probably my favourite upcoming band) and Working Men's Club There have been other good records/songs but nothing that made me feel the urge to go back to it Dry Cleaning for me were in that "I don't mind it but it's tiring after a while" category, but who knows maybe the record will make me change my mind

When it's ten tracks of more or less the same dynamic between the two, then as fun as it is, you're right that it can get tiring. Love that tune, though. Interesting to hear your take on the whole post-punk thing of the moment, though - I'm quite enjoying it. Fontaines D.C. and Idles as you say are both strong bands, and Black Country New Road are the kings of the moment for me - although I'm still to get round to the Black Midi LP which I know has a tonne of hype around it. I feel like it's just been a while since there was an identifiable moment in rock music like this, the way pop and hip-hop have had over the last decade, it's fun to be a part of as a fan. Particularly since the other rock albums I've heard this year so far (Kings of Leon, Julien Baker, Foo Fighters...) have all seemed a bit hazy and inessential by comparison.
