I think Oasis could sell out Rogers Centre in Toronto... Molson and Air Canada Centre (around 20,000) was sold out in few hours. Noooooo I'm not even sure if the Stones sold it out, thats pushing 70,000 capacity. duh. I'd think the Rogers capacity was around 40,000...

B. The ticket prices weren't as bad compared to say a Paul McCartney or Madonna gig at MSG. Lyla wasn't even a hit in the U.S so I disagree with you on that. I never even saw the video on TV...my sis saw it ONCE on FUSE and that was it. Barely no radio airplay either in NYC. The album debuted at #12 on Billboard's Top 100 albums and never went higher. OASIS has turned into one of those marquee bands that promoters know will sell out venues no matter how badly an album does. It's not such a bad place to be if u ask me. Never said MSG was a bad place. Lyla may not have been a mainstream hit a la 'Wonderwall" but it was a good enough song, and the album was strong enough as well, to draw older Oasis fans such as myself back. Also, don't compare them with Macca or Madonna; just because a show is cheap does not mean the fans will come unless the music is quality. I do not know how old you are, but alot of the older Oasis fans became disillusioned with SOTSG and HC. For all intensive purposes they were done. I think DBTT re-established them as a legitimate rock group. Oasis did well to sell out MSG. Yes, it is a historic venue. However, I have two very good friends who work in administration for MSG and even the promoters were surprised they sold it out. Listen, I love them and they are without a doubt the only legitimate rock band out right now. But lets be truthful here...they aren't going to sell out big arenas anymore. Yankee Stadium is historic as well and there is NO WAY IN HELL they could sell out either Shea or Yankee stadium by themselves. Remember, U2 sells out MSG, they sell EVERY seat. Oasis had the seats behind the stage blocked off. Also, it would have been even gutsier on their part to add on another show due to the quick sell out of the original show: that's what the old Oasis would have done. I disagree that Oasis is a marquee name anymore. This fact is fine; I'd rather them be more of a cult band. Speaking from experience, DBTT brought alot of the older fans like me back for the MSG show and unfortunately, the disasterous SI show (I still have indigestion from that show). In my opinion, they peaked with the MSG and Boston shows.

I've been a fan since Live Forever, been to 13 oasis gigs since 1996 and never have I once abandoned them. Every oasis show is an experience that I enjoy despite external factors that are out of the bands control (dull crowd, horrible venue, etc.). I never felt like one of those "fans" who didn't want to see em live anymore after HC & SOTSOG...To try and pretend that OASIS can duplicate the magic of Definitely Maybe after all the money and success now is delusional. To truly call yourself a fan is to love a band through thick and thin...warts and all, or in OASIS' case, BHN & HC.

Not trying to start an argument here. I am merely trying to be realistic. I do not consider BHN a wart; SOTSG and HC fit into that category better (SCYHO and LBL are the only songs worth anything off of HC). As for implying I am not a true "fan" of Oasis, I have been to over thirty shows, on three different continents, been to the taping of the Wembley shows, and have drank with Liam at Temple Bar in Dublin City. I have been to the very first shows here at the Wetlands as well as the Metro in Chicago. I have never missed a show no matter how bad I thought the album was. If they did an album of children songs I'd still pay to see them. But, during SOTSG and HC, any self-respecting Oasis fan began to doubt how long they could go on mailing in albums. DBTT proved they still have alot left in the tank.

But, during SOTSG and HC, any self-respecting Oasis fan began to doubt how long they could go on mailing in albums. I never felt that way during any of the albums. If anything, I was disappointed at people & the media for not " getting it". After SOTSOG, I pretty much resigned myself into thinking that I didn't care anymore if OASIS had a no. 1 album in America or a well-reviewed one at that. As long as I still feel the magic then all is fine & dandy in Gallagher Land. ;D

Wow, come on here and you can get depressed. BHN has great songs but a lot of them together make for a long listen.
SOTSOG COULD have been a classic 'deep' album if they had just mad better managment/band choice on the album vs. b-sides that went on the album.
HC compared to more than half of other bands out there is good listening....HT, SCYHO, SB, LBL, BOADC are great songs ( I even like (All In The Mind)).
I would rather hear 1or 2 songs off of each of those albums than R'N'R Star, My Generation or Bring It On Down.
I don't want them to turn into a Nostalgia act or their next tour to be sponsored by VH1.
If you look at the last four albums I think the low point was either the choices they made for the songs that went on SOTSOG or the lackluster tour they did for HC.
How many bands were at their height in 1996 that are even around anymore. British or U.S.?

As long as I still feel the magic then all is fine & dandy in Gallagher Land. ;D And that's all that matters!! It's my opinion that both SOTSG and HC were mailed in, both having 2-3 good songs surrounded by filler. I saw them at the Beacon during HC and while they sounded good, they appeared disinterested. Having seeing them at MSG for DBTT, they were enthusiastic and joking with the crowd. Liam had the swagger back. There is no band, not U2, not Coldplay, not even Pink Floyd, who have a better opening than F$#%ing in the Bushes. There is no better feeling to have a lager in hand, the lights go out, and FITB spews out menacingly over the PA. Cannot wait for the next tour. Let's hope the newfound energy carries over. Cheers.

By the way, what exactly is "karma"? Pardon my ignorance, but I am relatively new to the boards and was just wondering what karma was. I just noticed I have one, whatever that means. Thanks!

A bit like Joy Division, a bit Bauhaus, they're the sound the Killers were trying for. You should check them out if you haven't already.

Their 2nd album New Fellas ( in MY opinion) shits all over The Arctic Monkeys debut. They also put on an amazing live show...I've seen em 3x in less than a year! Yeah...I'm obsessed. ;D

I am going to see the Saw Doctors Thursday night at Irving Plaza and will buy tickets for The Editors for the July 28th show. The wife and I are also going to T in the Park (the wife loves the Charlatans) with my cousins. Not sure if the Cribs are playing at that. I saw Oasis there a few years back during HC. Great venue.

I'm gonna jump in now that I'm a bit tipsy after days of reading this thread. Oasis could without a shadow of a doubt sell out Skydome(or whatever they call it now). I'm a displaced Canadian in NYC. They could also sell out Giants Stadium.
The reason I say this is that Gwen Stefani sold out MSG twice. Her 1st gig sold out in 3 weeks(Oasis in 1 hr). Then she added a second show. With the demand Oasis had plus the amount of people that would have paid to see it twice...MSG would've sold out twice with two seperate crowds. Giants Stadium holds roughly 40,000 for concerts like Green Day played last year. Oasis could pull it off. But without a major label, I doubt they'd pull it off. Rumour has it though Warner Brother will sign em though.
Toronto is a no brainer. Every gig Oasis has ever played there has sold out in hours, no matter the size of venue. T.O. is Oasis country (although I got kicked out of there ACC show for no apparant reason).

If Green Day "sold out" Giants stadium at 40,000 then the a large portion of seats were blocked off. Giants stadium has the seating capacity of 80,000 seats. The Stones played there to 70,000, and Bon Jovi will do the same. MSG arena, where Oasis played, holds roughly 20,000 and every seat behind the stage was blocked. Forget about labels; their image here in the US has never been popular by mainstream standards. If the demand was there more people would have shown up at Across the Narrows, which was advertised on TV and radio. If Oasis were part of a festival-type event, then MAYBE they could sell out Giants Stadium. There's not a snowball's chance in hell they could do it by themselves now, unless, as you say, they they block off seats to cut down to Green Day's "40,000 seat" venue.

If the demand was there more people would have shown up at Across the Narrows, which was advertised on TV and radio. Well, ATN was held in Staten Island (a.k.a New York's Landfill Borough). I think that played a major role in the lack of ticket sales for the event. Staten Island doesn't exactly attract visitors in droves if you know what I mean.

However, I did think they would garner a better crowd than 1500 fans. The idea of the whole thing was great; the execution of it was attrocious. The stage with a backdrop of NY Harbor was fabulous (Kasabian was also great that day).

Yeah, Green Day did set up the stage at the half way point of the stadium to chop it in half. I still stand by the fact that Oasis could sell 40,000 tickets to a well promoted NY event. And certainly in Toronto.
Across The Narrows had the capabilities of being a fantastic event. I loved the the S.I. venue, I'm sure Coney Island was cool to. If you could take the upper half of the bill from Staten Island and Brooklyn and put them on just one bill it would have been a fantastic event. Why put Beck head to head with Oasis competing for an audience. Get both crowds together for one huge event.

Yer gonna start thinkin I disagree with everything you say coz Im about to again! Hehe! I think Radio City as a venue sucks. You only really get a great view if yer within the first 20-25 rows in Orchestra and the first few rows in Mezzanine. I've seen OASIS there 2x: the first one I had orchestra seats but it was behind the soundboard, the 2nd time we had 1st mezzanine seats and it was decent. I've been there so many times for other shows and the one I enjoyed the most was when I had PIT seats for a Keane gig last year. They completely hooked up their fan club so we had our own special section right next to the stage. I just think that the way the place is set up is more appropriate for plays and such as opposed to concerts. The Roseland was a great venue for oasis...Jones Beach ain't shabby either. Jones Beach was actually where my first OASIS gig was back in 1996...It rained on and off that night...Screamed my lungs off! Aaah the memories! ;D

I think the acoustics in Radio City are top notch and completely disagree with the seating. Similar to MSG, there is no bad seat there. I too was at the Jones Beach show and would like to see them play there again. I do agree with you on the Artic Monkeys (shocking!) being shite in a fishbowl.
