whoa, there really arnt any skippable tracks....love them all
this album, for me atleast, is primarily a spring/summer album (altho i've listened to all year round)....maybe its cos it was released in May...
but the songs have such a carefree, spring/summer like quality:
Turn up the sun, Lyla, Love Like a Bomb, Importance of being Idle, Keep the dream alive
although i do wish the next album has more anthems -- like WTS....but fuck me, what a quality album DBTT is
DM -- 10/10 WTS -- 10/10 DBTT -- 9/10 BHN -- 7/10 HC -- 6.510 SOTSOG -- 6/10

I will agree that it's a top-notch album for sure. For me I didn't expect DBTT to really be anything amazing. HC and Standing... were bother pretty mediocre in my mind and I really didn't think that whatever they'd bring out would be much better. I was impressed
However, although there aren't really any skippable tracks, I will certainly say that the only album that DOES have any in the first place is SOTSOG. And by that token I'd say that everything is good on the album, but I've had a hell of a time coming up with a song that I really really like. There's all good tunes, but nothing compares to the first three albums as I'm sure most people would agree

I love this album, but it's probably my 5th favorite. Lyla, A Bell Will Ring, KTDA, Let There Be Love... all great songs. But TUTS, MF, Love Like a Bomb... still put me to sleep. For me it has the same problem as does SOTSOG, but on that album it's forgivable because they were really trying something new. This album they sound like they're trying to be both Oasis and not Oasis at the same time, and it never really reconciles itself. Is it a good record? yeah. Looking back, will anyone remember any of these songs? I'm gonna say no.

gotta disagree with that last statement....
'the importance of being idle' will be remembered and loved for a long long long time to come... i expect it to be part of the live set on the next tour.... i think that song is noels best work since the very early stuff (dm,wtsmg)

I love this album. it's so complete. and it's true there are no skippable tracks and as an album it's great cos it's classic oasis but doesn't sound like they're trying too hard and failing like most of HC does. it has a great flow as an album. I must say I disagree with drummert5 cos Lyla is a big hit, it's so catchy, and TIOBI was also a massive hit. and anyway I'm sure I will remember every single one of these songs forever so there you go.... great album and I hope the next album is at least as good as DBTT

i'm not thinking as highly of this album as i was when it first came out. It's about equal to HC and SOTSOG and no where near the first three.
turn up the sun is ok, but it has that pussy outro that just ruins the whole song. Why the fuck would they add that shit at the end of such a strong song. It kills it.
i care not for mucky fingers and skip it along with meaning of soul. i used to like love like a bomb, but it doesn't really fit on the album for some reason. it sounds more like a b-side.
the other tracks are ok.

The weakest song on the record is Lyla. Is just an Oasis-by-numbers tune. Is utterly predictable Oasis single that really only us, the fanbase, responded to. The usual B chord chugging away, the usual nonsense lyrics, the usual accusations of nicking the chorus from another song, the usual throwaway guitar solo that isn't a patch on anything Noel's played since BHN. The sad thing is I quite like the song (it improves greatly live), but then I AM in the fanbase. It's the most obvious thing on the record and the worse for it.
The stuff I really like are the songs that AREN'T like the usual - TUTS, Mukcy Fingers, GGTIA, TIOBI, etc. It's about time they moved on (well, as much as Oasis CAN ever really move on) and did some new(ish) stuff. They're never going to make MG or BHN again, but they can at least have a full on go at doing something a bit more unexpected.
That said, I do think a problem with the album is that it feels a little lacking in production. I know they were going for stripped-down but in some ways they have gone too far. For example, in trying to make LTBL "not a flag-waver" I think they let the song down. It IS a flag-waver, in structure, tone, lyrics, the lot. They just undersold it with the production. I'm not saying it should have been bombastic and OTT, but they should have let the song build toward the end as it obviously wants to (Liam on his own repeating the chorus at the end is just BEGGING for Noel to come in and trade harmonies with him).
Likewise on TMOS: imagine it as a full on, Northern Soul stomper with big gospelly backing vocals etc. Would have leapty out the speakers and people wouldn't dismiss it so easily as a filler track. Imagine LLAB without the overly-raspy Liam vocal (the song only really fills out once the piano solo comes in).
It's a top record, but like every album since BHN, when you listen to it you get the impression that it has elements of genius that just weren't quite cooked well enough to get them to properly explode. Still, the "elements" are decidenyl greater than on SOTSOG or HC.
Get Owen Morris back behind the desk, I say, and maybe (now that Noel is off the gear and no longer insisting on 87 tracks of guitar solos and 11 minute songs) he and Noel can recapture that alchemy they had when they could take a great song and make it really excellent.
