In a week of many 'major' new releases there are seven new entries in the top 10 alone, 12 in the top 20, yet only one in the remainder of the top 40.
Oasis have managed to knock McFly off the top spot and send them tumbling down to 8th.
'Soca-princess' Rihanna somehow managed to move from 7th to 2nd in the midweeks overnight and has stuck there in the final charts with 'Pon De Replay' giving Soca a firm footing in the UK charts.
Whilst he has not been in the charts as long Daniel Powter managed to outperform James Blunt, with Daniel sticking at three in such a busy week, whilst James Blunt fell three places to fifth.
Elsewhere there is congratulations for ex-Blue member Simon Webbe at 4th, but comiserations for Girls Aloud who rank up their lowest new entry to date at 7th.
Outside of the top 10 Freemasons did not manage to get top 10 and enter at 11 and the Crazy Frog not managing to replicate the success of Axel F at 12.
In the album chart Goldfrapp had looked likely to remove James Blunt from the top but 'Supernature' only managed to reach 2nd, whilst Black Cherry re-enters at 39 and Craig David, having beaten Goldfrapp in the singles chart two weeks ago enters at fifth.

Is this Oasis' 8th #1 single?
Indeed it is Some Might Say - May 95 Don't Look Back In Anger - March 96 D-Ya Know What I Mean - July 1997 All Around The World - January 1998 Go Let It Out - February 2000 Hindu Times - April 2002 Lyla - May 2005 The Importance Of Being Idle - August 2005 All no 1's. Sadly Wonderwall missed out at no2 as well as Roll With It, Satnd By Me, Stop Crying Your Heart Out.

Its the first time since Be Here Now that no.1 from an album wasn't the first single either. Let the Be Love is bound to get no. 1 too, hopefully.
Overall this is good stuff - they were right, this is the most successful album in ages in terms of singles, and only the second time a Noel song got to no. 1. I really hope they don't do the Mucky Fingers plan though, won't get no. 1 with that poo.

It's also the first time since HC, since they've had an album out. It's also the second longest album title since SOTSOG, and it's the first time a single has had a white cover and....ah forget it.

Oasis have had more number ones than any other rock band in history apart from the fab 4. I think Elvis, Beatles, Cliff and Westlife have had more Also peopleThe Beatles... ABBA... Madonna... Robbie Williams... YOU TOOK ONE HELL OF A BEATING!
Oasis now hold the record for consecutive Top 5 UK singles by a group with 17. This puts them ahead of The Beatles and ABBA who both had 16. Oasis are near the overall record, already ahead of Madonna (16) and Robbie Williams (13) but need 3 more Top 5 singles to displace Cliff Richard (19) from the top.
Oasis now hold the record for consecutive Top 10 UK singles by a group with 19, again beating The Beatles and ABBA (18 each), but they have a long way to go if they want the overall record. Madonna had 34 consecutive Top 10 UK singles and Cliff Richard 23.Since Whatever in December 1994, everything has gone top 5 and everything since Live Forever in August 1994 has gone top 10. Well done lads. Exceptional statistics! I wonder if we can beat the record for #1s. We already have 8 - probably 9 with LTBL - so only a few more albums with #1 singles and we could be tieing with the Fab Four. lol I know it's a long shot, but at least Oasis are pulling clear of Robbie Williams and the Spice Girls!

8 #1 singles. Pretty damn good. I did my part, but it hasn't arrived in the mail yet.
Like Tam said (I think it was Tam), I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic. I'm also not near any major metropolitan areas in the US.
I can't remember — what kept "Stop Cryin'…" out of the #1 spot in the UK? Was it that remix of that Elvis song? It would have been in late June/early July of 2002, if memory serves…

Yes Jim it was Elvis that kept SCYHO from no1. It was gonna be no1 but Engalnd got knocked out of the world cup and that became the anthem and might have stopped it from being top.
And tycoon, i doubt Oasis will beat elvis as he has over 20 no1's while oasis don't have 10 yet. It could take 20 years for the lads the beat elvis and if some dj finds another obscure elvis song like in 2002 then elvis could have more.
