Top Story: New Oasis Album Release Date
Noel Gallagher has announced the release date for the band’s next album. But don’t hold your breath – The Guv’nor says you’ll be lucky to get another record out of the band before 2010.
In a new interview, Oasis head-honcho Noel Gallagher has confirmed his band won’t release any new material until 2007. In fact, he wouldn’t be surprised if the next album isn’t out until 2010.
Gallagher did, however, confirm that the band will release a new B-sides compilation next year collecting the flip-sides from ‘Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants’, ‘Heathen Chemistry’ and ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’. He also rubbished claims the band are on the verge of releasing a ‘Greatest Hits’.
“This is from the horse’s mouth. We will only do a ‘Best Of’ when we split up. The only thing we’ve got that might be in the pipeline next year will be another B-sides album, all the B-sides from ‘Standing…’ to this lot,” explained Noel to the NME, before taking a pop at his Britpop rivals.
“I never understood the Manics and Blur putting out ‘Best Of’s - I mean, what the fuck’s all that about? It’s kind of saying that whatever you’re gonna do from there on is not gonna be your best. We’ll put out a ‘Best Of’ when we stop. No ‘Best Of’ or singles album until it’s done and dusted.”
He also confirmed that when the band do finally return to the studio, there won’t be a huge amount of songwriting needed to be done.
“We’ll probably have the rest of [next] year out [after the tour ends] and Liam will write 500 songs, Gem and Andy will write a few and I’ll go back to the ones I haven’t finished off. We never make plans. We haven’t got a record deal now anyway.
“So we’re gonna have to find a new record deal that suits us. That’s where we’re at, and then… we don’t like to rush things. ‘Be Here Now’ was rushed, ‘Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants’ was rushed and it’s kind of like, ‘If it takes five years for the album to come out, I’m not arsed.’
Noel also commented on the man who Liam swore would never play with them again and, at V this weekend, described as a four foot penis: Pete Doherty.
“I think two years ago, if you thought of Pete Doherty, he was kind of untouchable,” Noel considers. “Now when you think of Pete Doherty you think of that guy who’s always in the background of that picture with Kate Moss… Are you gonna be remembered as Kate Moss’ boyfriend or a fucking artist?
“In six months, if he’s not put a record out, it’s gonna smack of the emperor’s new clothes, all of it. My opinion of him hasn’t changed. His heart’s in the right place but the people he’s around are not that good for him. “I was disappointed [about his no-show supporting Oasis in Southampton] because I convinced Liam to get Babyshambles on because I’d seen them at Brixton and I thought it was amazing. And Liam was going, ‘No man, I’m not having any of this shit,’ and I was going, ‘Fucking trust me man, it’s great.’
“We weren’t furious, it was like, ‘Oh, he’s got to do a fashion show,’ and it was like, ‘Well, if fashion shows mean more to you, good luck to you.’ He should change his name really, I think he’s living up to his name as Babyshambles…”

This is interesting. I've always thought that Oasis were going to wait a long, long time before releasing another album. 5 years is too long, if you ask me, but I wouldn't be surprised if they waited until 2008.
I'm not sure about this proposed second compilation of b-sides. I've said this somewhere on these forums before, but does anyone really think that the b-sides they've released since SOTSG are worth their own album? The b-sides to "Lyla" weren't bad (my copy of TIOBI has yet to arrive), but of the 8 official UK singles they've put out from SOTSG until now (well, 9 as of yesterday, 8/22), I think there are maybe 3 b-sides I would recommend to anyone other than a die-hard Oasis fanatic.
I would like to see them release a stand-alone single or two, but there doesn't seem like much of a chance of that.

There are some great b-sides. And I'm sure some great ones will be coming up. Let's All Make Believe, One Way Road, Cigarettes in Hell, Thank You For the Good Times, Shout it Out Loud, Pass Me Down the Wine, eyeball tickler, etc.

idlers dream, you've got the heart of a star, carry us all, my generation, just getting older. There's 12 between me and Shortdude123. Maybe toss in a tune or 2 that didn't make The Masterplan like Round Are Way or The Fame.

Noel always says stuff like this... but do you think Liam is gonna sit on his ass with hundreds of songs from early 2006 till 2010? With the balance between the Gallaghers we should get an album in 2007 or early 08 I think.

Hopefully, since Liam's writing so many songs and got that drive, he'll get on Noel to get back to work with the band instead of taking off a bunch of time. I thought they said they had another albums worth of songs that were just as good as DBTT.

so what if liam has millions of songs, his best are still little acoustic numbers, so if he ever writes a live forever plus countless other classics(which i believe he is incapable of even with gems help) maybe the album will come quicker, but once again we gotta wait on noel because hes got nothing in the tank, he has released almost everything he has ever written, it could be until 2009 that we see an album because hes gotta come up with new stuff...i'm not negative here, just being realistic, especially about liam and his capabilities

A few guesses: 1. There won't be any pre-SOTSOG stuff on it. It's just not going to happen...that stuff was recorded with Bonehead and Guigs...and plus if he'd wanted to include it on The Masterplan, it would have been on The Masterplan.
2. Pretty well every Liam sung bside from then to now will be on it. Which means we get Let's All Make Believe! Yay! And My Generation! Yay! And....Thank You For the Good Times.....eh. What's left? Just the ones from this album I guess.
3. It won't even compare to The Masterplan.

Let's All Make Believe / One Way Road / Carry Us All / Helter Skelter / Thank You For The Good Times / Shout It Out Loud / My Generation / Eyeball Tickler / Pass Me Down The Wine
Plus 2 b-sides from the forthcoming 3th / 4th singles of D.B.T.T.
That's my personal prediction of the tracklist ;D
By the way...If Noel put "Stop The Clocks" into this album, it will be mega!!

I would go so far as to say the majority of them are pretty much just Noel's demos (except for the stuff off DBTT). With the exception of "Let's All Make Believe," I think the b-sides from SOTSG were just Noel and maybe Whitey in the studio with the producer. If I wanted to "convert" someone to Oasis, I might include "Acqueisce" (sp?) or "Step Out" or "Fade Away" or "Stay Young" or a handful of other b-sides from the early days. I'd only play most of the b-sides from SOTSG onwards to someone who was already committed. And could someone explain to me why, why, WHY "Round Are Way" was left off "The Masterplan," but "Swamp Song" was included?

Although there was a fans vote, Noel had a say in the finalised tracklist, and as he hates Round Are Way he probably made a point of leaving it off. Which is also why there is little on it that was written around the BHN era (Going Nowhere obviously was a much older song), I think an exception was made for Stay Young - he hates it but it was left on because it is such a fans favourite. That's annoying for me cos it meant two of my fan Oasis songs, (I Got) The Fever and Flashbax didn't make it. As for the new one, very few 'normal' albums can stand up to Masterplan, so it would be very difficult for a new compilation to hit those heights, but a track-listing of: 1- Eyeball Tickler 2- Let's All Make Believe 3- One Way Road 4- Shout It Out Loud 5- 6- 7- Thank You For The Good Times 8- Columbia (live) 9- Just Getting Older 10- (You've Got) The Heart Of A Star 11- Helter Skelter 12- Idler's Dream 13- Pass Me Down The Wine 14- My Generation would be brilliant IMO. (few gaps for a couple of newies)

I am sick of having to sort through all of my singles to hear two damn songs and then I have to change the disc again. It would be nice to have most of them on one disc.

(few gaps for a couple of newies) i woudn't put a live track on it, and two covers is to much. so id say get helter skelter and columbia off. apart from that those are indeed some nice tracks, i would put wont let you down on it aswel, just waiting for the new b-sides for the rest.

I'd only play most of the b-sides from SOTSG onwards to someone who was already committed. And could someone explain to me why, why, WHY "Round Are Way" was left off "The Masterplan," but "Swamp Song" was included? No kidding! The Masterplan really should have been a double-album. EVERY "Morning Glory"-era b-side (besides maybe the Glastonbury '94 "live Forever" and "The Swamp Song") should have been included. And there was no excuse not to include "Whatever," either - yeah, so it's not technically a b-side, but most other groups when releasing b-sides albums include non-album singles. So besides all those MG-era singles, they could have padded it out with a few extra BHN and DM-era b-sides. Maybe Alive, D'Yer Wanna be a Spaceman?, I Will Believe, Angel Child, (I Got) the Fever, My Sister Lover and Flashbax. Anyway, I agree with your conclusions about this new b-sides compilation. It'll be great to have "Let's All Make Believe," and a few others, but most of them aren't that great and it'll have an awful lot of very samey-Noel-acoustic numbers. Oh, and I REALLY hope they don't include Won't Let You Down, which I think is just awful - bad lyrics and a really annoying, weird reverb on Liam's voice which makes the song horrible to listen to. I guess I'd include... 1. Let's All Make Believe 2. Cigarettes in Hell 3. One Way Road 4. Idler's Dream 5. Shout it out Loud 6. Thank You for the Good Times 7. (You've Got) the Heart of a Star 8. Eyeball Tickler 9. Pass Me Down the Wine 10. Sittin' Here in Silence on My Own 11. Can You Feel it Now? unfortunately that doesn't really round it out too well, does it? Well, hopefully they'll keep it short and sweet instead of piling on the tracks.
