At MK on sunday I was shocked. Yes Liam's voice was amazing again (or at least the best it has been in recent years). But I was more shocked at how things have changed..
I have always been very pro-Noel, not to say anti-Liam but very much a big fan of Noel's song-writing, drive and b-sides. Now though there seems to have been a BIG shift in focus within the band - Liam is now the focus and the drive of the band. He is still undoubtedly "mad for it" and Noel is a bit-part player. Noel turns up and plays those world-famous chords and sings the obligatory DLBIA but without any REAL conviction or "passion".
As I say I am a BIG Noel fan but from right down at the front on sunday there was not one single "NO-EL" chant? It was ALL "LI-AM" (roughly 15 times at least) or "OAS-IS" (around 5 times). When Liam sang his songs he had the whole crowd loving it and helping him along with his vocals and when Noel sang everyone drowned him out and I couldn't hear ANY of his vocals.
At Finsbury Park 2002 I remember the whole crowd cheering Liam leaving the stage for Noel to sing 'Little By Little' and Noel noticing this had to say "there is no need for THAT!". Even Noel jumping up on the speakers and applauding the crowd at MK at the end only got a "luke-warm" response.
Did anyone else at MK notice this shift? Were there any "NO-EL" chats at all in any part of the bowl? Is Liam leading our band now a good thing? More Liam songs as b-sides?? ETC.

yea i agree completely ive been sayin this for a while now, mentioned it to BlefastDon, noel looks like he isnt up for it, i think Laims always been the same and just hugely brillliant and charasmatic so imo this isnt a new occurance, but noel just looks bored, he didnt so much at the mancester gig just broadcast, but look at him on the milian show, he looks like hes had enough, maybe the arena tour will win him around again

maybe so, but noels still the one who got them wher they are now, and hes still the one who does all the proper interviews and talks the band up properly in them (even though liam does som these days, noel does th majority)
hes still the main man in the band, and when he decides to call it a day, that'll be the end of the band

Noels been my god for years. My buddy met the the band at the airport in Chicago before they left for NYC. He called me and said he'd met the band and that everyone was great, signed autographs and chatted for a bit. Noel said no. My friend told me to go meet them at La Guardia. I did, I politely asked Noel for a picture. He should moped on by and said not today. Heartbreaking moment. Than Liam came strutting out and was more than happy to pose for a photo, than he asked me if he could have a photo with my wife. I really thought that Liam would be the tough photo to get. Ah well, maybe Noel was ill or something. He was twirling a bottle of asprin when he was sitting in the airport. I wouldn't want to be posing for photos if I was hungover either.

I think Noel's got 'Beatles '66' syndrome at the moment. A bit sick of touring and just wants to be in the studio, which is fair enough I suppose. He'll always be the man for me though - it is his songs that changed my life.

Noel is my god, hands down.
I think that DBTT issued not just a change from Noel to Liam, but a change from Noel to a full band. Just think of the ex-members and then think about the new ones. Zak Starkey was the huge hit of the night, and Liam made note of this afew times in Toronto.
I think that Noel is simply backing down, and I think on the surface he's cool, but really he's reluctant to not be the band's soul.
Gem wrote the best song on BDTT (imo) and Liam wrote the two of my next favourites. I love Noel, but I know there's something new and mystical about what the rest of the band are doing.
Don't forget, Liam has changed a lot since cleaning himself up, and I do believe that's made him a more serious man. Look at his contributions now.

He's unhappy with the performance, and his throat hurts. A doctor is sent for." So that explains why you thought he looked bored. Doesn't mean he's not into it for this tour, I think.

Ah, so THAT'S why Noel said that. I always wondered about that (I have the bootleg)... were you at that show? I would have sold my right arm to be there, that's for sure.
Noel IS God... and what he says GOES... that's cut and dry... but I do agree with most of you with the fact that Noel may be getting burned out at this point, whereas Liam is going the other way, getting more and more keyed up with touring/interacting with the fans, etc. etc. that is quite a flip-flop from the past... but as for who drives the band and who will keep the band on course, it will always be Noel in my opinion.

in my opinion Noel is just backing a bit from the spotlight, he has said it feels like a band again with the new members, and i think he doesnt want to make them feel like replacements...he will play his guitar and do his singing part but he wont try to fight for the spotlight,he'll leave the crowd interaction to the frontman.
But do not get me wrong, Noel is the chief, and will allways be as long as they are a band, he loves the gigs, hes just a perfectionist at heart and little things can put his mind out of place(trouble singing TIOBI).He has changed and we have to respect that, hes even letting gem do some important leading guitar parts, not to say letting the band write half the songs for the album.
He has earned his right to do all this, in my opinion he could just stand there strumming his red gibson....and there at the stage, in that little space to the right.... stands a walking legend.

But he'll always be the chief and Liam will always be our kid.
