Oasis - 'The Importance of Being Idle' Whenever a band releases a new single, they almost always claim that it's their favourite track from the new album. By the time the same statement has been applied to the first three singles, you could be forgiven for doubting the truth behind such bold words. However, long before the build up to Oasis' comeback single 'Lyla' – which went straight in at number one – Noel was teased into revealing his true personal fave. "If I had to pick one it would be 'The Importance of Being Idle'", he told the Manchester Evening News. "[It] sounds a bit like The Kinks, a bit like The La's, a bit Liverpudlian. I think it's got the best lyrics." In my opinion, I think he was telling the truth. Partly because it was said outside of promoting a forthcoming single. Mostly because the track is written and performed by Noel himself! body_image I have to agree with 'our kid' though, as 'The Importance of Being Idle' is Oasis on top form. It's a catchy and quirky tune, with trademark shouty vocals and genuine manc swagger. On top of this, the video is a work of genius… Liam and Noel have once again called on a movie-star buddy to bring something special to the video, this time calling on Welsh actor Rhys Ifans. Set in a bleak, black-and-white shot London, Ifans cavorts his way through the streets dressed as a funeral director. Expertly choreographed and very funny, the procession of funeral directors juggle coffins, offend mourners and perform impressive high-kicks, their expressions remaining stern throughout. Not only will this video guarantee the success of the single, but it could also make Rhys Ifans the next Michael Flatley! The single is not released until 22 August, but you're sure to see it plenty of times on TV over the coming months. The three-track CD will contain Liam's song 'Pass Me Down The Wine' and Gem's 'The Quiet Ones' as bonuses. Look out for the special DVD though, as it will include a documentary on the making of the video which is sure to be essential viewing. www.ntlworld.com/music/oasis.php?page_zone=140.5.1
