as much as i like tiobi, fix you is a fucking incredible song... i have to give the nod to coldplay, even though i think x&y is mostly crap

I wouldn't be overconfident in either of them getting the #1 slot in the charts to be honest, second singles from albums don't usually get above number 2 or 3.

How many copies did Lyla sell in its first week? And Speed of Sound?

Fix you is the best song on X&Y...i honestly don't think oasis stands a chance
I was in a barnes and noble the other day and they were playing the new coldplay album in its entirety, some kid in the back who put the album on played fix you 4 times in a row...with that kind of exposure i dunno how well oasis can do with their single..

TIOBI is a fantastic song but up against fix you it really dosnt stand a chance. I really dont like x and y at all but fix you is a beautiful song and will get the number one slot without a doubt. DBTT pisses all over X and Y though

the both are brilliant songs, tiobi is the best song on dbtt, an excellent album, fix you is great, but not the best on x and y, the superior, classic album. fix you will easily take 1 in U.K. and id say 4 ish in the u.s. idle will get 2 in U.K. also easily, but wont chart here sadly.

Has the NME decided to run with this and turn it into some huge battle? Cause if they have...

I think a few of you guys are missing some important points.
- single choice isn't always about the better song. See 'Lyla' and 'Speed of Sound'. - sales numbers don't necessarily reflect the best song. It doesn't really matter which song you think is best. - single charts is not exactly the same as album charts. A large group of people who affect the album charts ("passive" fans) don't buy singles. The larger group in fact, so X&Y selling much more than DBTT doesn't really matter here. If memory serves me right Lyla sold more in its first week than SoS.
TIOBI is a brilliant song (with a great video) and Oasis has a lot of die-hard fans, more than Coldplay I would say. I think it has a good chance at doing better than Fix You.
The press will mention of course but not too much. Probably more if this was the first single.

Fix You should go to #1. It's much better than The Importance Of Being Idle and it's arguably Coldplay's best song to date.

blah blah blah. havent heard the coldplay song. dont give a fuck about the coldplay song. dont give a fuck about coldplay. i do know though that coldplay are the biggest band in the world right now and that oasis singles except for the first havent done really well for the past 5 years. with that said i'm saying that oasis will be lucky to make the top 5 while coldplay will hit number 1 or 2 if there is no new frog song out

People in Great Britain have much better taste for music than Americans. The Brits know that Coldplay is washed up. The Importance of Being Idle will take #1 because Oasis fans are craving more. Coldplay fans are simply disappointed.
P.S. Doesn't is bother any of you that every fucking Coldplay song sounds the same??? Yellow, Clocks, Speed of Sound... it's all one song with different lyrics. Coldplay is shit, and you should be ashamed of yourselves for comparing them to Oasis. It's like comparing the Black Eyed Peas to the Beatles.
Oasis- the biggest band in the world, the best band in the world.

One more thing. No one in the U.S even knew who Chris Martin was until they found out that he was married to Gweneth Paltrow. The only reason they found out he was married to Paltrow was because they named their daughter Apple. It's probably the most distasteful publicity stunt in recent years.
Neither Gallagher ever had to name a daughter Plum in order to sell records.

i don't think "fix you" should be a single. it's too ... the last part of the song picks up but the rest of it is sorta slow and prodding. "the importance of being idle" is a stronger song, but coldplay gets the nod for number one due to overall popularity.
i personally like "swallowed in the sea" over either of those.

well i think it dosent matter who gets the number one, because when it comes down to pure music, fix you is better than IOBI, but speed of sound struggled to sell over 10,000 copys, and lyla easly sold enough to get number one, and speed of sound had the better video and the better song just, i think at the end of the day coldplay wont look a confrontation here because they dont need to pull them selves up on oasis coat tails, i wouldnt be surprized if the gallaghers mixed it up on the weeks up to release, both great songs, will be a good week for music at least, wait n see, crazy frog remix in A minor will get to number one lol

I think Parachutes and ROBTTH are INCREDIBLE ALBUMS ! absolutely amazing...
however, X&Y is too effortful and tedious for my ears. too many notes, too many words, and it does not have the "flow" that the 1st 2 albums had. it is all in the ear of the beholder.. I do like some of the tunes i..e white shadows..
it is interesting how the UK differs from the USA in terms of coldplay.. I think america is MISERABLE at the moment , like Chris martin.. I am serious. (and we shld be !) MISERY LOVES COMPANY.
ON a personal level I admire chris for his MTF efforts. he will do as he choses.
and besides the marketing coldplay has is mega. you can buy the CD at Starbuck's for fuck's sake.... years ago man that used to be called "selling out." I think Noel wld call it that too.
be well...

maybe the most ridiculous post ever, coldplay had already made it before apple was born, she just turned 1[/quote]
It's a ridiculous post to a ridiculous reader. Indeed Coldplay had already made it in the U.S., and most people did know who Coldplay were.
What I said is that no one knew Chris Martin until the Apple stunt. They may have heard of Coldplay, but Chris Martin wasn't a household name.
Today people in the U.S. know who Chris Martin is for one reason- his daughters name. Being familiar with Coldplay and knowing who Chris Martin is are two totally different things. If you can't realize that difference, then you are ridiculous.
I never said Coldplay hadn't "made it before Apple was born." My friend, you are arguing with something I never said. You are arguing against a distortion of your own creation.
I'd say that your reply to my post is the most ridiculous post ever.

well if you beleive that he named his daughter apple as a PR stunt, then you need to wise up to yourself, and can anyone here say "Lennon"?,
and to be honest i add more to this forum, than you mate, and im more of an oasis fan, than you could ever hope to be, take a cup of shut the fuck up

John Lennon is Liam's idol. That is why he named his child Lennon. You can't possibly be suggesting that Chris Martin idolizes apples?? There is no comparison between Liam's child and Chris Martin's child. You are trying to compare apples and oranges MATE! No pun intended.
By the way, no one gives a shit how big of an Oasis fan you are! You debated my post, and you lost. Take it like man. You are the one who should have a cup of shut the fuck up. You should also get "I love Noel" tattoed on your ass since you are such a big Oasis fan.
