POLICE are warning rock fans heading to tonight's Oasis gig they could face fines if caught drinking in public. Officers policing the event at Hampden Park told thousands of music fans that there will be a clampdown on drinking in streets near the venue on Glasgow's south side. Last week 50,000 people descended on the National Stadium to see Irish superstars U2. Officers on duty there reported problems with people drinking in the streets. To avoid a repeat of last week, police have issued a warning to fans reminding them it is against Glasgow City Council bylaws to drink alcohol in public places. People can be convicted and fined up to £500 if caught. A police spokeswoman said: "Street drinking will not be tolerated. There were number of problems last week and we want to warn people in advance. The by-laws will be stringently enforced." The sold-out Oasis gig is anticipated to be one of Glasgow's hottest stadium gigs this summer. The Gallagher brothers' band is on top form with their chart-topping sixth studio album, Don't Believe The Truth. Their second single from the album, The Importance Of Being Idle, will be released on August 22. Lyla, also taken from the album, hit the No 1 spot. The video for the new single, which features actor Rhys Ifans will premiere on Channel 4 at 7.55pm this Friday. Ifans plays a funeral director high-kicking his way through a New Orleans-style procession. The single will also feature two new tracks, Pass Me Down The Wine, written by Liam, and The Quiet Ones, penned by guitarist Gem Archer.

It's not the public drinking that causes problems...Its when stupid venues sell em in beer BOTTLES. U can easily split a head open if some drunken moron throws one in the air (like in Philly). Plastic cups please!

Plastic cups please! true, a girl I know got blinded in her left eye when some moron threw a beer bottle at a guy who was near her. Drunken moron missed and hit my friend Holly in the face, shattering multiple bones and tearing her retina apart. Luckily she didnt actually lose the eye but cannot see out of it anymore

Very true soulcrew !!! Hampden was a fucking disgrace mate, security was a joke which resulted in loads of alcohol being taken into the ground and people being hit with bottles.
