alot of u really mistook my review..i hold OASIS to a standard higher than any other band not named led zep- the stones -beatles-....it was a great gig..... BUT they could have did a bit more..both in length and in diversity.... FACE FACTS PEOPLE NYC IS DIFFERENT .... its the mecca of publicity and to play the same gig here is a bit sad...i am not comparibg them( as kings of leon said ) to the stones i dont want balloons...i just wanted a longer, more unrehearsed type show... those are shows that are legendary folks , not the same old same old ..people that post they cant believe i say this are not gettin it,,the concert was GREAT...IT SHOULDA BEEN LEGENDARY I know what u mean Kalas...Im not too crazy about the setlist myself...They really shouldve had a (even slightly) different one for this marquee gig. Everything else was mega though...The intensity of the crowd and Liam definitely OWNED New York City last night!

Let's be more pratical... what did you want them to do? 1) play for longer... well, they have another gig tomorrow. Liam can't kill his voice, it would be unprofessional. 2) play a new song (LTBL for example)... how do you think the fans from Detroit, Toronto and Chicago would feel? I don't think it would be worth it, "cheating" on the thousands of other fans to make the people who went to MSG feel more special. Any more suggestions? no suggestions, you're right ..couldnt have said it better myself

BTW, i hope they play a different setlist & play longer in Sydney! Sydney is the best City in the WORLD! i want balloons too.

erm. i can understand both points of view.. but i wouldnt mind them doing a little extra for the NYC show cos it's so important if you want to have the deserved amount of recognition..and oasis deserve much more as we all might agree. but to be in the league of the biggest you have to work a little bit harder than that cos "simply" delivering one of the best albums of the year isnt enough these days, sad but true.
conclusion: the band can't be arsed. result: they will never be regarded (by the media/critics) as big as other names that were already mentioned (zep, who etc)

Kalas you're right, 100% right... and it's annoying when people are too up an artists ass to step back a see reality (go to www.ryanadams.org and you'll see JUST what I mean)... they didnt HAVE to do anything different, but it's the simple fact it was probably never even considered that's the issue.. it's that attitude that has not allowed them to get bigger outside of the UK... as much as I hate Coldplay you watch, their MSG shows are gonna be something big and different... and to anyone who thinks Oasis looks at NYC the same as every other town you're crazy, its the captial of the world, and most important city in the US. if ONE show is reported on this tour that will be the one... but they just played it like it was Antwerp, Cardiff, or Indianapolis...

YES IT WAS GREAT...BUT WITH ALL THE HYPE AND TALK OF SELLIN OUT NYC IN UNDER A HOUR U THINK THEY WOULD HAVE DID A BIT XTRA..BUT ITS COOL...HURRICANE U SAID IT BETTER THAN ME..THANK U

nah they arent going to do their best every gig no matter what or Liam wouldnt fuck off stage half way through... Liam didn't fuck off stage half way through, first of all the gig was at the end, one song to go actually (plus encore). And he didn't "fuck off", he fucking lost his voice and apologized. The real FANS should be supportive, not fucking pissed at him. If you wanna be pissed at someone be pissed at the fucker who booked Oasis for 3 gigs in 3 days. Now kalas, I don't want to go into another Guns N' Roses discussion with you but I'll use them to make a point. In 2002 they played MSG (sold out in 15 minutes), and it was, according to everyone, fans and band members, magical, some of the band said it was the best gig of their lives. They played the exact same setlist as the previous gigs, and still it was magical. Why? Because of the atmosphere. They didn't have to open with a different song or have a longer setlist, because just being there with a packed Garden in the greatest city in the world made the same songs more special. Like you mentioned, NYC is one of the most special cities in the world and the performers AND band know that, and that's what makes it special, not an extra acoustic set with Noel or a 3 hour gig. Unfortunately I couldn't be there, but from the SEvERAL reviews of the gig (including webby's, which everyone respects very much) the band was "feeling it", and the audience was too. It's too bad that you weren't, probably because you expected something different even though Noel said they don't like to give a special treat to fans from different cities many times before. I bet you you won't see a 3 hour long set (with Noel acoustic) in the UK tour, even though in the UK they will be playing stadiums and the people there actually buy their albums. They've been using the same setlist for all the gigs this year, and that DOESN'T mean they like all of the same. For example, Toronto had a lot of happy fans and the band was clearly having a great time. Chicago not so many, Liam even suggested some of the "fans" should bring a pillow next time. MSG, from 99% of the reports on this forum and others, was one of the great ones, and I would say it was probably their best gig in 2005. As for Oasis playing live, it's not a big show with people running around or fire works or crowd chats. With Oasis it is about the music, and about seeing our favorite band playing the songs we love so much LIVE, right in front in our face. See Liam in flash and blood owning the place with his loud singing is gonna be SPECIAL to anyone who truly loves this band. ("I carry madness everywhere I go" for an opening line, how fucking great is that?) Cheers

Dudes and dudettes, enough with the WE deserve special shows because NYC is just so big penis cool. To not understand the importance of Detroit and San Francisco as gritty rock n roll meccas is to suggest you need to step off the Island and get some fresh air. There's a reason some of the best live albums ever were recorded in Detroit. Look it up. Heck Austin, Atlanta and Memphis are downright flippin' great.
Hard to imagine Mr. Lou Reed and Mr. David Bowie having half their cool without stealing from a righteous Ann Arbor brother named Iggy Pop. Maybe when you die, you can ask Lester Bangs when you meet him. He'll set you straight.
OK, I'm semi-kidding of course, NYC is an awesome town but, enough of the capital of the world stuff. That's what gets the John Rockers off their rockers.

I totally agree with what Kalas said. I wasn't at MSG so I can't talk about that gig specifically but I have basically stopped going to see Oasis live these days because I just don't think it's worth the effort and the money. Don't get me wrong, if I hadn't seen them live before or only seen a couple of their gigs I'd be right there but the turning points for me came at Finsbury Park in 2002 and Nottingham on the same tour. Then I saw it again at Glastonbury last year on TV. Basically, there is just no interaction with the crowd anymore, no set changes and it's all pretty personality-free play-the-hits-and-a-few-new-ones-and-let's-get-off type stuff. This is someone who saw them at Maine Road in 1996 by the way so I know what to compare it to. That gig was just amazing, as it would be because it was a very special gig for them, but that whole vibe of Oasis gigs has gone. The last time I saw it was at Wembley in 2000. I was there the second night and I know Liam was pissed out of his mind but at least they were TALKING to the audience a bit, rather than just standing stock still in silence most of the time. I don't know whether they think it's cool or whether they just get a bit bored of touring these days, but still I think they desperately need to put a bit of CHARACTER back into the gigs and have a bit more fun - that's what it's meant to be about at the end of the day. They need to get that interaction back with the crowd for me, and also change the set round a bit more, spring a few suprises and, as a lot of people on here have said, think seriously about reintroducing Noel's acoustic spot. Rant over ;D

people thats my point right there..... THE GIG WAS GREAT NOT SPECIAL...AND THAT POST NAILS IT I'm sorry, but WHY? I thought your problem was that the MSG performance specifically was not "SPECIAL", and that post actually complains about all the current performances and not the MSG. If you agree with it I have no idea why you're going to Manchester.
