I honestly observed the exact opposite... more energy and enthusiasm out of Liam and the band (but not Noel) as I've ever seen. Liam did his usual tamborine schtick, but part of the cockiness is him just being able to stand there, stare down the crowd, and make us go crazy. He did enough little jigs to express his excitement, had some conversations with people in the front rows, teased them with the tamborine several times, ad-libbed "for you to come and fuck me out my mind," etc. I was pleased -- Noel seemed relieved and appreciative at the end, even looking up to the cieling during the solo to DLBIA as if he was taking in the gravity of the moment, and I'm going to have to squarely disagree with anyone who says Andy and Gem weren't getting into it. They were as animated as I've ever seen those two.
But I understand what you're saying Steve... we talked about it at length last night, and I think you're right it really doesn't live up to the huge UK stadium shows and as someone who's been to the epic ones, it makes sense you weren't as impressed. It was my first time too, so maybe I'm just too eager to proclaim my lost Oasis virginity was at a great gig...
Anyway, more pics coming soon... uploading now

When I saw Oasis on friday night in Toronto they put on their best performance in many years. They were definitely tighter as a band than they were on the HC tour. Oasis have always stood there and play, they've never been a band to move around much or jump around or yell. It's just them, onstage, playing their music. It's very simple and I love it.

I agree with Kalas in the sense that given the venue, the hype surrounding the gig etc, I was a bit disappointed. Liam sounded great, the band sounded great, Zak is tremendous, it was a great show. But I didn't walk out with the sense that it was a special show, and therein lies my dismay. I was seriously hoping for a surpise or two, something to mark this show as different from the others. So I guess I'm mixed in my feelings about it. If I get this show Friday at the Tweeter in Boston, I'll be ecstatic. But I just wanted to be able to say "remember when Noel did a one-off accoustic set at MSG in 05?" or "Can you believe they played such and such B-side that night?". Then again, if my biggest gripe is just a great performance, I can't complain too much!

This thread is kind of like watching Neil Young and griping because when he finally moves he stomps and lumbers around the stage like a wounded bigfoot versus shaking his willy ala Jimmy Page or running around with two hands on the fretboard ala Eddie Van Halen.
Yet nobody on the planet ever walked out during Cowgirl in the Sand did they?
Oasis is the same kind of riveting spectacle when you are in that zone. Neither Neil nor Oasis are the Paul McCartney and Wings "how ya doin' ya feeling alright?" let's play nothing but hits run around and have a good time types. Jet said "come on" and waved their arms like seventeen times and it felt like a strip tease. Oasis just lets the music get hard and bends the audience over a park bench.

I can't believe you turned up expecting anything else Kalas. It's interesting that you mentioned Knebworth, the only reason Liam was so 'chatty' on the 1st night especially is cos he was charlied up to his eyeballs. Take away the emotion and significance of the day and the peformance is awful. I'd much rather have a sober less chatty band giving a solid performance, which by all accounts is what they have done for most of the tour.
I've never seen Oasis abroad so I don't know if there is a difference in the band abroad. If there is it's probably cos Liam n Noel are working class lads from the uk, and when they play in the uk, their usually staring out at the self same people, so probably feel more relaxed and at ease in front of a uk audience.
It does bug me though when people constantly compare bands, would x person do this, would x person do that? No, cos they are themselves. If you want to see a band called The Rolling Stones release thousands of balloons during the encore, go watch The Rolling Stones.
Not doubting your love of Oasis, or the fact that you're a top member of the board, but it does seem like a strange complaint to make.

have to completely disagree with your review, having seen them 4 or 5 times this is the way they do live gigs, americans it seems want a circus act to go with the band people jumping through hoops and breathing flames....thats not what there about, Oasis epitomise cool and have never been about that shit...its all about the music, was on the bus home last nite and thats exactly what the young new yorkers were going on about, it blew their mind but they were disappointed about the movement on stage......that was easily rivals my best Oasis gig which was the Point theatre Dublin in 97...it was mind blowing...

A lot of bands rely on dance routines, running around, big explosions of fire, video screens playing some strange stuff that has nothing to do with the song (Rush anyone).
Noel was described once by other kids when he was young as the kid who never moved on the soccer field & the way you knew were he stood the whole time was all the cigarette butts in the same place.
Liam is it. If he taunts the crowd or whetevr it's gonna just be him.

Kalas.. Could not agree with you more. I saw them in Chicago and made up my mind. I will not attend another show unless they mix things up. Like you said.. Liam was top, I lost my voice, and my knees ache from all the standing and jumping around, but the band ARE like robots. It seems to me 90% of the fans are at the show to hear wonderwall, DLBIA. and LF. It is so dissapointing to know the entire set list before hand. Think about it, what did they play from albums 3,4,5... two songs combined ? Enjoy europe and hopefully they will turn your face warm with SUNSHINNNNNNNE!. Z
