This article was in undercover today www.undercover.com.auThey said Sydney shows sold out in 30 mins but they had to put a negative spin by saying DBTT is a commercial flop, also claimed album only went to number 2 in the UK. Oasis keep getting this type of negative press as if they just can't bear to say anything positive about the band... Oasis Tickets Hot, Album Not Oasis (photo by Ros O'Gorman) Related Content: Buy CD: Oasis Don't Believe The Truth by Paul Cashmere 20 June 2005 While the Oasis album 'Don't Believe the Truth' has been a commercial failure, tickets to their Australian shows sold out within 30 minutes of going on sale this morning. 'Don't Believe The Truth' came it at number 5 in Australia last week but dropped to number 15 this week. Total sales for the album after two weeks are just over 10,000 which is far less than the number of tickets sold within 30 minutes today. New shows have been added to both Sydney and Melbourne. The album also dropped in the UK and Ireland after two weeks. On the UK chart 'Don't Believe The Truth' fell back to number 4 and in Ireland to number 6 after debuting at number 2 in both countries last week. Oasis was last in Australia in 2002 for the Livid Festival. Tour dates are: November 26, Brisbane, Entertainment Centre November 28, Sydney, Hordern Pavilion November 29, Sydney, Hordern Pavilion December 1, Melbourne, Festival Hall December 2, Melbourne, Festival Hall

The fact that they've sold more concert tickets than copies of the album is suprising. Perhaps that is testament to the amount of music sharing that goes on these days?

There seriously has been no promotion for DBTT, I am a fan of the abnd and haven't been able to find anything so if you aren't there is no way you are going to know the album is out (unless you see it at HMV) . I spoke to a work mate today as I was enthusing about getting my tickets and he said are they still together??

Even so. There's more people who are willing to buy tix within a 1/2 hour of them going on sale than those who actually have bought the album.
Both shows and the album have had the same limited promo... the fact that the shows are so popular indicates there are plenty of fans so why low album sales?
Maybe they're either....
a) Hardcore fans who have made up most of the album sales and ticket sales
b) Fans of early stuff and are only going to hear wonderwall and DLBIA and are content to just download the new albums and are making up the concert goer numbers
Who knows.

Still, what's that about nr 2 in the UK? That's a lie. About the album, I guess it depends if you compare it with Morning Glory or with their last album, HC. As far as I know it sells better then HC. It's been nr.1 in Japan("Lyla" is also a hit there) and in the States it charted better then HC. Lets look at this in perspective.

he seems to be quoting weeks two & three of the album's position in the uk charts, conveniently leaving out the fact that it sold more than most of the rest of the top 10 combined in it's first week - never let the facts get in the way of a good story, eh?
the proliferation of commercial downloads available on the internet of full albums means it is always the easier option for someone to kick off their fat broadband line and have the album down in no time. had i been so inclined i could have grabbed an uncompressed cd quality flac of the official release, on the day of release, in about 30 minutes flat - that's quicker than me taking a walk to the local store to pick up the CD.
i didn't, because their music struck a chord like no one elses did when i was growing up, so i will stump up the cash for everything they release as my way of thanks.
not everyone has our kind of loyalty though. but what's a person to do when they really dig oasis, have downloaded their copy of the new album for free, but then want to go and see them live? there's no shortcut around it, they have to buy a ticket like the rest of us.
you can compare this too, with coldplay. they have shifted loads of album sales, yet have sold out very few of their live shows, unlike oasis, who are selling out buildings in record times all across the world. so are coldplay and their fans having the same kind of wonderings?

This album was just #1 in THE WORLD two weeks ago and is now #7 in the world. That is not a commercial flop. It's barely getting started. Almost every Oasis record does better after the 2nd or 3rd single. I like Lyla a lot....better than Hindu Times and I still think there is a few better ones on there for singles.

I think the facts speak for themselves!!
Number 1 in the uk and Japan (first band since bay city rollers 1977) debuted number 12 in the US, their highest ever and number 2 here in Oz.
Yeh DBTT is a flop! Pffft I fookin hate Oasis critics!! Get Fooked!!

i like the loyalty on this forum =) we always rally against the critics that diss oasis. and all the critics that write glowing oasis write ups we always comment on how clever this person is. =P i fully agree though, however irrational. lol! so yes, this guy sucks shit! i mean its a fairly large oversight to not mention to easily made number one in UK and that come on, they had competition from the likes of coldplay who are at their peak. and fails to mention that when oasis were at album number 3 in their career they were considerably more massive and more interesting. and also, records sales mean shit all -.- its hardly oasis' fault that so many people lack the basic intelligence to appreciate oasis in all their obvious greatness! ignorant fools all of them nah really, i am jsut beign mockingly condescending. people should listen to whatever they want and be happy =)
