this is how OASIS carear coulda been..it is a double edged sword on one hand i am glad they are rebels (liam)..and because of that suffer backlash that will always prevent them from reaching the level of sales here that coldplay have...on the other hand it sux IT LIKE IF you got the hottest chick in the world and you cant show her off to your mates ,you know you have her but nobode else does..thats how OASIS are here..the fans that buy it no how good they are but the masses will not know..i dont know which angle is better..but i know 1 thing OASIS are still the band i feel has made the best music in 2005..jmo and its no knock on coldplay

According to my local radio station coldplay came in at 1 with over 700,000 sales, more than 2, 3 and 4 on this weeks board combined, and the highest amount of 1st week sales this year for a guitar-based act. Fair play.

Once and for all album sales are huge for two reasons and two reasons only.
#1 Bands will sell big (especialliy at the out set) if they are coming off a huge album, media coverage etc. from the album before (BHN great example) reached #2 in U.S.
#2
A HIT SINGLE.
Chumbawamba sold 3 MILLION copies of their FULL album back in 1998 just b/c of that song "I get knocked down, but I get up again...."
Singles sell albums in the U.S.
If Wonderwall was on SOTSOG it would have tripled the sales of DM in the U.S.
Compare both those albums even with Wonderwall on SOTSOG on it. DM still all the way.
Now that Noel has said no singles from Andy or Gem will be released the only big single in the U.S. I can see is LTBL or LLAB.
I always thought KTDA would do great in U.S........it's alrready been used on national tv.
Sooooo in conclusion Coldplay is reaping rewards of Rush to the head and a minor hit w/ Speed of Sound.
'Yellow' is what broke them. Although Travis's first 2 cd's we're better than Parachutes in my opinion, they didn't have that one song that made it for them in U.S.

are they really not releasing any of gem or andy's songs as singles? that's what Noel said jokingly yesterday on the Edge. Never say never, but I'd say it won't happen.

So... that means Keep The Dream Alive won't be a single? That's a damn shame, because it's a great song and I think out of all the songs on the album it would do the best here in the United States...
BTW here in Boston Kiss 108, Mix 98.5 and WBOS are playing Speed Of Sound HARDCORE

Speed of Sound isn't a minor hit, it debuted in the top ten in the states, only the third group from the UK ever to have a single debut in the top 10. That's no minor hit. It's a great song and deserves to do well, as does the album and the band. also the most downloaded song in history

just my opinion, but the new Coldplay album is horrendous. It's trite and full of all of the pseudo-intelligencia references that made Clocks such a terrible song. I loved Parachutes but after that they have really let me down. Every song is trying to be like some "solving the universe" nonsense that just ends up sounding like jibberish. The only reason they went to #1 in the US is because record buyers here think it's "cool" to like Coldplay regardless of what they release. They're the new "it" band. I personally would not pay a dime for the new record. I hope that the fog that surrounds the minds of music critics and buyers alike will go away so that they can actually see the music for what it really is. Kudos to them for selling that many records in the US, they have reaped the benefits of a faulty system in the US. At least at Oasis' lowest point, BHN, they had attitude and swagger that carried them along. As for Coldplay, if you kiss ass enough to then entire world, surely people will believe your hype. Again, just my opinion, though I probably offended someone
