I think I have to agree with almost every word of that review. The songs on X & Y are obviously well written and they are obviously a talented bunch, but its just so fucking overdone with all the layers of syths and every song has that kind of 'hum' over it, probably except for the last one - the 'secret track'. Give me DBTT anyday - short, summery, happy and to the point. X & Y - 'The BHN' of this decade, Im telling ya. Just wait for the backlash to start on those guys.

Right on, I agree with what you have said. I have been trying to explain this to my friends and they are starting to agree with me that the new Coldpaly album is mediocre and it is complete shit compared to Oasis's new album. DBTT is so much better than X&Y.

Oh yeah I also forgot to say - one other major disadvatage that X&Y has over DBTT is that Liam Gallagher aint singing on it.

The truth is that Coldplay are pretty boring. Good songs , hooks and melodies and very inventive guitar tunings/voicings but half the time they just put me to sleep. Speed of Sound is a fantastic song. Definitely stronger than Lyla as a first single but I get the feeling that Coldplay have reached that point in their careers where they've become corporate slaves/monsters , where so much is riding on their success , both from a business as well as a personal point of view , that failure (commercial failure) would kill them. It's sad when bands get to that point. It usually happens 3 or 4 albums into their careers , the suits and the numbers take over and "mojo" , real creativity and artistic experimentation go out the window in the chase for the allmighty dollar. I can just imagine Coldplay doing "Every breath u take" type songs in the not too distant future and Chris Martin turning into Sting. All breathy & superficially profound but with nothing much to say.
