I think this one is gonna fly off the charts. Everyone I have played it to has said that is their fave on the album. You can't beat Noel and the acoustic guitar. Sends chills down me every time

I think it'll do fine in the UK. Not sure about America, though.

The Frog must DIE . But as far as TIOBI, of course, it'll be no. 1.

sad to say it will bomb here in america, the majority of american fans don't appreciate songs like that love like a bomb or keep the dream alive would have had a better chance.

Gas Man, TIOBI - I have no idea how Noel took his songs to a NEW HEIGHT ! he is so clever ! amazing.. I still hope and PRAY to meet him one day and thank him for my 10 year wicked love affair with him (his songs.) In the UK ppl will be singing it in the store, walking thru the park etc. I think and feel it is too "BRITISH" for the states. It's a whimsical tune like Andy said. (which is what makes it so brilliant !) it's got such a wonderful melody doesn't it? One of my favs - but then again I am saying that about all the songs on DBTT !

Stop Crying Your Heart Out was much more commercially effective in the UK, as to a lesser extent was Little By Little, and they both only managed 2nd, so I'd expect Idle to fair about the same, apart from the first single Oasis haven't had a UK number one since All Around The World.

I fink it just depends on what other singles get released that week, or if theres a massive single the week before wether that momentum carries on. Basically its down to the opposition.

I think it will go to #2. second to what though??? that all depends... either way, Soemthing REAL good (or REAL shit for that matter) is required to snatch the number 1 place from TIOBI I don't think many songs can do that

no top 5 though the problem i think it has is that it's not a typical oasis song. people will think it's weird at first and it'll then grow on them. so i do expect it to quite well with numbers, just the initialll chart position wont be that great

This song is my favourite on the new album just because I wasn't expecting it at all. As others have said it is Noel pushing creative boundaries with his own songwriting but still being essentially an OASIS song. I was hoping this would be a single! Most first singles released before oasis albums do go number 1 followed by top 5's generally for the rest. Certainly since Be Here Now this has been the case. It may not hit the top depending on what novelty or gangsta rap is released that week but so what? I am much happier with this as a second single over the once-predicted Let There Be Love - that is a fourth "goodbye for now" single if anything!

i dont think it will hit at 1..i love it but it seems the majority of the record buying fan will have it already and will just miss out , like little by little and songbird just missed out they have 7 number 1s in 7 lps (including the masterplan) so while i hope for the best i expect a number 2 or 3 it seems to be the trend

Hope it does, great tune. It'll make it if that blue frog's not around when it comes out. Not my fav song on the album though.

I tend to agree with many people here, in that TIOBI will follow the trend of follow-up singles from the previous two albums and just miss out on the #1 spot (though didn't "Stop Cryin'…" miss #1 because of that Elvis remix, i.e. another novelty song? I don't know. I'm not from the UK).
BUT…
I think it has a shot at #1 in the UK, and here's why. For one, it strikes me (a Yank) as quintessentially British, and a quintessentially British song for a lazy British summer. Its resemblance to "Sunny Afternoon" by the Kinks has been remarked upon, and that works in its favor. Also, its lyrics are a little different from typical Noel fare. They're more direct, a little less… errr, impressionistic. They remind me a bit of "Married… with Children." Basically, anyone can relate to being harried by their landlord and being told to get a life.
The chorus isn't as singalong-friendly as it could be, but then again, I've heard audiences sing back EVERY SINGLE WORD to some Oasis songs, so maybe I'm not giving it enough credit.
Finally (and this has nothing to do with the song itself), it seems that Oasis' b-sides are currently experiencing a revival (I've generally been not very impressed with the b-sides from the SOTSG and HC singles, with a few exceptions). So, perhaps a few more people will want to check out the extra tracks.
Anyway, that's my take.
